Potential fallout from coaching change

Recommended Posts

If this is indeed a hint, Stevens would not be smart to go to N.Carolina preceding them potentially being hammered by the NCAA in the time to come. Many expect a stiffer ruling than Syracuses recent punishment.

Really?  I don't think a damn thing is going to happen to them, outside of maybe 2 years probation or something.

Sad.

I have a friend who managed at UNC and remains close to the program. He suggested Stevens as a possibility to replace Roy only bc there is nobody in the UNC "family" worth squat waiting in the wings. He also indicated Collins will succeed Coach K; he went to NU to get a few years seasoning and, hopefully, to get NU to the tourney to give the eventual change more credibility.

Does anybody think Steve Alford would ever be a good fit? Nobody mentions him anymore, to emphasize on my question I'm not saying yes I'm just asking what others think

No. He has his shot at rebuilding a blue blood in UCLA and they're in the same/worse position as us. He took some decent UNM teams to the tourney and always blew it.

Plus, the history at Iowa is concerning to me from a program compliance stand point.

I want our next coach to be a winner with a squeaky clean record.

I think Alford is a good coach. I don't know if he is an elite coach - yet. He has his first real chance to coach at an elite level at UCLA, so we'll see what he can accomplish there in the next 2-3 years. My feeling is that he will be successful but I don't see him leaving Westwood to come back to Bloomington. That ship has sailed.

He's been coaching awhile at big time programs. If he had a chance to be elite, we'd know by now.

Stillman, he's a Hoosier icon who lead us to a NC. I'm more than willing to give him a chance to prove himself at UCLA. It's his first job coaching at a blue blood program.

I don't understand the animosity toward Alford from IU fans.

He is a good coach. Not bashing him. This is his first job at a blue blood yes but he spent years at Iowa and at New Mexico, which is another good program.

If he was an elite coach he would've gone to the final 4 once in his 20 years. As it stands he has gone to the sweet 16 twice in that time period.

If Crean is gone I'd be disappointed to go with him simply because he has a worse resume than Crean.

His resume may actually be worse than Crean's, and Crean's resume doesn't exactly say "good coach".  Alford didn't even stand out in weaker conferences, and if he was a good coach he should have.

No animosity, I hope he does well but at this point it looks like a case of great player not much of a coach.
