IU vs Illinois Post Game Thread

Recommended Posts

C'mon fellas, nobody gonna recognize the use of the shot fake today? It honestly felt like we took more shot fakes today than at any other point since Crean has been here. Fakes from everyone from the 1-5. Bench players. Walkons were doing it! The shot fake is a great fundamental to always have available. As much as I have ragged on about the staff, they deserve a shout out for emphasizing the importance of the shot fake and how to use it properly! The kids are growing very well.

I think RoJo shot fakes it every time he touches the ball.  I imagine someone passing him the ball in the dorms and him shot faking before passing the ball back.

They are currently reshowing the game on the BIG ten network and Im watching it. I missed the second half today so I get to watch it now. But someone I noticed a lot this game and a lot during the Big Ten season is there seems to be an anit-IU bias on part of the commentators during the Big Ten season. During the Illinois game the commentators got REALLY caught up in the game it seems and anytime Illinois made a play or some kind of a run, the commentators were SCREAMING. When IU got hot or went on runs the commentators just kept going like normal. I also notice small things like they always talk about what the other team has to do to beat IU. Its never what IU has to do to win or beat the other team. Its always what the other team should do to beat Indiana. Just small things that just seem very strange when you take a step back and look at them

Nah...

The home crowd was going bonkers, and the announcers got caught up in the excitement.

As they should.

They had a real slobberfest on for the Illini. They sounded rather subdued at the finish.

I love it.

They were really into Illinois's runs. It was weird

Saw that Eric Collins (the announcer doing his best Linda Lovelace impersonation for the Illini) has held a few announcing jobs in Chicago that lasted multiple years. Homer city.

BTN guys often have local roots. The guy that does Pacers games on FS Indiana does Purdue games for BTN every once in a while.

He’s done a lot of work in Chicago - White Sox and Bulls and some minor league team in Schaumburg, as well as other gigs. I’m not big on conspiracies - figure that he just caught up in the energy of the crowd, as others have suggested. Even if he was a "homer", we beat ’em, so take THAT! :)

From Wikipedia:

Eric Collins (born 1969 in Cleveland, Ohio) is a play-by-play sports announcer, working primarily in baseball and softball.

From 2009 through 2013, Collins served as the part-time television voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, taking over the duties of Dodger radio voice Charley Steiner, who was the team's play-by-play announcer on road telecasts east of Denver. Collins' broadcasting experience including doing play-by-play on NBC Sports' coverage of the USA Baseball team during the 2008 Summer Olympics Games in Beijing, China, as well as calling ESPN's coverage of college footballcollege basketball, and college baseball and softball Super Regional tournaments and Women's College World Series games (WCWS in 2005 and 2006); part-time announcing for the Chicago White Sox in 2004 and 2008; and working in Minor League Baseball for the Schaumburg Flyers and Rochester Red Wings. He also worked as a sideline reporter for Chicago Bulls broadcasts from 1997 to 2002. Collins has broadcast every game of the World Cup of Softball on ESPN since its inception in 2005, with partner Michele Smith. In August 2010, The Big Ten Network announced that Eric Collins would handle play-by-play duties in college football and basketball. He will also do play-by-play announcing for Fox College Hoops.[1] On October 12, 2013, it was announced that Collins would not be continuing as a broadcaster for the Dodgers the following season.[2]

Collins is a graduate of St. Lawrence University (bachelor's degree) and Syracuse University (master's degree).

We should probably take it as a compliment... basically they expect IU to handle most teams because well.. "it's Indiana" in people's subconscious still. Illini is the little engine that could and it was cute and fun to see them give it a try  :D

But seriously - going to rewatch the game later and take more in. Still just thrilled with the win. IU never broke composure. IU was running their sets and Illinois was launching 26 footers. Yea, two guys were on fire but I will let them take those shots 99% of the time... However, Z decided he was going to go ahead and make a statement and block that deep ball! I love it. Ripped the clutch 3 and then blocked theirs, haha.
