So who's going to be the new Coach next year?

Recommended Posts

In no way am I suggesting that this person should be the next coach at IU...it would never happen, and it shouldn't, but take for instance Coach Greg Tonagel at Indiana Wesleyan (I'm an alum). In the 10 years that he's been there, he's won the conference 7 times (the last 6) and just won a NC this spring.  He, of course, played for Drew at Valpo and he's been a winner in every program he's ever been part of.  The guy can flat out coach!

Is there a snowball's chance that he will ever coach at IU?  No.  All of this was to point out that there's some really good coaches out there that only need an opportunity.  Is IU a school where you give that kind of opportunity.  I don't think so.  There's way too much money involved at this point to do something like that.  However, I'm not sure how much worse we can get from a basketball standpoint.

Is at bad that this point I would take it?

Honestly, I think we need to replace the AD first. Glass is tickled pink with both Crean and Wilson.

If booster's have to pony up that ludicrous buyout, and they probably should, Glass's neck might be on the chopping block next to Crean's.

I would really be hesitant to just pull the trigger on someone, we really need to make sure we get the right guy, or we may be in another situation with our last two coaches, sampson and crean were big mistakes in most aspects more sampson than crean

Search Committee Firm is that absolute last phrase I want to hear, should we make a change.

I hate how the fate of our program is in the hands of either Crean-backer Fred Glass or a handful of rich fat cats in a recession

I feel the same, but it will be better than the "committee" that helped last time. Or the former AD and President that were just as bad as the tool who fired Knight. We have lacked great leadership for a long time at Indiana. No wonder we haven't gotten it right...politics and race played large roles unfortunately.

May not be popular but I don't care:

I'd take Bruce Pearl in a heartbeat.  Baggage aside, he's an amazing coach.  The guy just wins.  He's great from a PR perspective, is very energetic, and he understands a little about Indiana basketball from his time down south.  His teams always play hard, and he's done very well as a recruiter at programs like Tennessee and Auburn.

If we miss on Brad and Hoiberg, he'd be my next choice if a change is made.

We kind of had one of those in Sampson. He won. He just couldn’t follow the rules.

We don’t need that baggage.

So Alford is in warm and sunny Southern California, making millions of dollars a year coaching a blueblood team, just waiting to come back to IU? Really? Seems like he's already living the good life. Why give that up?

Not saying I want Alford but don't you think he would recruit well in Indiana. ALL Indiana HS coaches know the names of Alford the player and his Dad the coach. IF he felt he could recruit better here and be close to family that would be a big draw.
