So who's going to be the new Coach next year?

Recommended Posts

nah, unless he pulls the proverbial rabbit out of his arse. Even then, recruits aren't buying what IU is selling. Sad state of affairs right now,

I mean, this game could be a fluke and he sweeps the rest of our non-conference, gets a decent conference record, and then does some damage in the tourneys.

Otherwise, his future looks bleak.

Then one of them would come. Lol. Bennett is on my list.
As for the others I think you are flat out wrong. Stevens is in a unique situation as he is at a better job. It's a lifestyle decision. The rest would all be taking a better position by coming here. They would be getting pay raises and they have all shown they are ambitious and wanting to move up the ranks. We will just have to agree to disagree.

We can do that. Believe me I hope YOU are right and not ME. I'm thinkin Fred is the mayor and Shaka has turned down tripling his salary 3 different times so far. Tim miles? Not totally sold and pitino...I guess could happen in a few years....those intra conference things are always hairy

1. Stevens
2. Donovan
3. Hoiberg, Marshall, or Archie Miller
4. Indiana guy. Alford, Wittman, Woodson, Smart, Crews

There's my list. Go getem AD or go by way of Michigans. And you may not be safe

serious(not sarcastic, lol) question for you and others. Do you really think Donovan would consider leaving Florida for IU? if he would I think we ought to be on the phone with him immediately, now...Like by 12:15...every day...EVERY DAY...EVERY, EVERY, EVERY DAY!!!

as a matter of fact...there is a greater chance of Ferguson not breaking out in violence tonight...

348. Right now in Indiana there are 348 high school coaches at public schools and I'm convinced at least half of them know how to coach better than Crean. It's basketball, people, and this is Indiana...coaches know how to coach basketball here. Just find someone who can coach like crazy, graduate players and leave all the PR cheerleader stuff to our marketing folks. It really isn't that complicated, but it has to be right this time. Stevens gets it. Whitman gets it. Cheaney gets it. Fife gets it. Brownell gets it. Woodson gets it. Richard Pitino gets...no wait...scratch that name...he doesn't get it.

One family coughed up $40M for Assembly Hall. I'm pretty certain enough coin can be found to buy out a bad coach that costs $11.5M.

$40M for vast improvements on Assembly Hall and getting your name on the stadium is A LOT different than throwing 8 figures at a guy to just go away.

I'm not saying it won't happen. I'm just saying I really don't see it happening. Fred Glass has never done anything to make me thing he would fire Crean after this season, unless he doesn't win a game the rest of the year or something.

We could go after a purdon't grad like the women's team. Counzo Martin seems to be off to a good start.

I live in Knoxville and loved what Martin did with the program before he was run off for not being Knight, I mean Pearl. That would not break my heart. he could definitely recruit Indiana.

I'm trying not to take a side on Crean right now, early in the season with everyone make snap judgements after a bad loss.

But from a realistic standpoint, the only way Crean is not the coach next year are:

1) He quits.

2) More off the court issues w/ the team allow IU to bypass the buy-out by firing him "with cause."

3) He finishes dead-last in the B1G and fails to win 10 games overall. Even then, it's a HUGE buyout.

Otherwise, better get used to cheering for this team and staff because it's not going to change.

Would Tony Bennett consider IU this time around? (He's making 2.3 Million, could give him a nice raise, although he might have received one after last season). Also, what about Sean Miller, obviously a pipe dream, but he started his career in the midwest.

You know that IU fired Bennett's sister when she was a coach here, right?

I would say we're close to the point of "with cause" right now. There were other drug issues on the team last year that never made it public. I like Glass, but he tied himself to a sinking ship with Crean's contract and he might go down with it...not to mention all the garbage that took place in WBB.

Is there any chance whatsoever that Crean could resign? Even if Glass had to talk him into it to avoid the embarrassment of being fired? Mike Davis announced he would step down at the end of the season and that at least allowed the team to come together and be successful over the last few weeks of that year.

I know his ego is probably too massive to do that, but he's about as popular as a fart in a crowded elevator right now and I don't think there's anything he can do to change it. And deep down, he has to know that. I've caught flack for saying he comes across as an insecure person who doesn't trust his own coaching instincts or ability to manage a program. He's like an artist who gets halfway through a drawing and then rips it up because he thought of something else, only to get halfway through another pedestrian sketch and repeat the process.

When you have people from all angles telling you that you aren't good at your job and you can't point to anything to refute them, it starts to sink in after awhile.

They aren't really that snap, it's been the same thing the entire season so far. We can't defend in the post and we can't even pretend that we can. We are all watching a team that is helpless on defense and wins by happening to out shoot at the right time. Lamar matched our points during the final 24 minutes. Lamar. Ranked 341st out of 351 teams by KenPom after they played us.

And tonight we lost on coaching. They weren't better than us, they didn't crack our code. We didn't put up any fight against them or seem to make any efforts to use our strengths to our advantage.

Yes, I do only because I live in SEC territory. He is very undervalued by everyone in a football conference. The same goes for UK believe it or not except for the inbreds in their state. All the talk is always gator football and it always will be. It would cost us, but he would be worth every penny. Lights out recruiter also. Every Indiana burger boy would stay home, and he wouldn't need to leave IN, Ohio, and IL to recruit much like the General.
