UK would've taken him and Booker both in a heart beat if they could've, they'd talked about playing together too.  According to Blackmon himself he was undecided until he reached down and grabbed the hat during his announcement.

When that announcement happened I about gave my mom a heart attack, because I just jumped up and starting screaming. All I remember before that announcement is how long the stupid sunbelt game took. Even though there was only like 2 minutes before half it felt like a lifetime. Still pumped to see JB2

I'm not sure I buy the whole "I didn't know what I was going to do until right when I picked up the hat" thing. Who selects their college that way? Why even schedule the announcement if you don't know what you're going to do? 

 

It doesn't really matter now, but it's just always made me curious. Who send their kid in front of a national audience like that without knowing what the decision is already?

Truthfully I'm not sure I buy it either, like you said why even set an announcement date?  Plus there were reports of him talking to another recruit (one we ended up missing on) about playing together at IU before he recommitted.

 

Point remains the same though, it's not really true that we got Blackmon because UK took Booker over him.  UK wanted both.

Word I got was that he was interested in both but was interested in being a 1-2 year player and he thought UK would be a better fit for that reason but was concerned he wouldn't get enough PT at UK and scheduled his decision right after Booker was to decide as Booker was just one more guard potentially in his way of getting minutes.

I suspect when we hear things like that it might mean the kid is heavily weighted one way but lingering doubts keep option B alive. Even if 90-10, that 10 is usually based on something you like and that component might enable that school to stay partially in play.

is the second part your opinion or did you hear something from someone who would know? Just curious as it contradicts to some degree what I was told. And no, it wasn't like IU wasn't on his radar and he chose IU soley because of Booker, but it played a big part, are you saying it didn't?

What I'd heard indicated playing time played a factor, but it wasn't the biggest factor. Whether Booker went there or not wasn't going to affect his perspective of what his playing time would be. He's better, so why would he care if Booker went there.

it's all related. People have said here and for a long time that they want guys that really want to be here blah blah blah but as some have pointed out, I don't care if Cuse is his first choice and they get hammered by the NCAA and he ends up here as a result.

Syracuse under a microscope and the money well dries up. There is no other way blue chip kids would want to play in that city. The coach is probably the most under achiever in NCAA history. Their 87 team had 4 players better than our best, so thankful it is a team sport. They are the all arrest u compared to the all academic u of North Carolina. ACC...good choice to align Notre Dame with their similar academic issues.
