AKHoosier Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 I could totally see Bryce Drew at Purdue if they can Painter. Vandy is actually doing pretty well despite losing Garland (gag), and it probably wouldn't take much to try and bring him back to NW Indiana. But would the Purdue fans/admin tolerate a guy who is clearly throwing bags of money around? Quote
ap2345 Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 I think Brandon Newman will be very good, but not right away. Usually he has some talent but they look aren't going to be very good next season. Purdue is a couple years away from competing for the top of the Big 10 due to the recruits that they get. This isn’t a negative for Painter it’s the reality of Purdue as a basketball program. They don’t get Caleb Swanigan’s every year. Most of the players he has success with are 4 year guys that get better every year. That’s what he has now outside of Edwards. Truthfully Painter’s recruiting isn’t that bad for what Purdue is as a school. But Purdue fans don’t really understand this lol. mdn82 Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Marquette May have lost to us, but they’ve beaten Kansas State and Wisconsin. Gonzaga over UNC doesn’t make much sense but could be because their only two losses are Tennessee and UNC? While UNC’s losses are a blowout by Michigan and a loss to Texas. They were pretty close though. Kansas has been considered the best team since the beginning or one of the best. Same with Duke. Tennessee has beaten Gonzaga which is a big win and their only loss is to Kansas in OT. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appYou really feel Marquette should be ahead of us after we beat them by 23 and comparing wins?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

I just don't think people understand..Next year Purdue is going to have one of their worst seasons they have had in a long time. Losing the Malik Hall kid was huge. Purdue and their fans have higher expectations. They'll be a bottom three team in the B1G for the next few seasons. That could be enough to can Painter. Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Marquette is 8-2, IU is 9-2. Marquette is ranked #20, we're ranked #22, so the voters obviously seem to think we're pretty comparable teams. When you have two teams that you think are at the same level it doesn't really make any sense to me to put the one that lost by 23 points to the other team, above the other. Quote
Uspshoosier Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 It’s just how the lineups of games have worked out since then. After that game they won and then lost to Kansas. We lost to Arky and Duke. While we beat Louisville and Butler they beat Louisville, Kansas State and Wisconsin. So their moves up were at the right time. They beat Kansas State when they were ranked 12th and the same with Wisconsin. They’ve had multiple bigger pushes than we have by beating the #12 team in the nation in different weeks. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appKansas st also lost to Tulsa right after Marquette. Polls in general are meaningless. Half the time in the AP the writers are still focused on football and in the coaches poll coaches are more worried about their own team then watching other games. Most the time they have a staff member do it. Regardless teams ranked 15-40 in the polls are pretty much have little separation. Polls are fun for fans to follow but I would more concerned with who has the better resume as of today. IU has put itself in position in the non-conference to earn a high seed in March. mdn82 Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Yes. Just because you beat someone doesn’t mean you should be automatically ranked above them. Rankings are personal opinions of the media. Marquette after losing to us helped themselves climb by beat two top 15 teams. We beat Marquette but then lost to Arkansas which kept us out. Then got whooped by Duke. Marquette has played better than we have since that game. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appJust because they have beaten up on mostly cupcakes at home since we played them doesn’t mean they have played better. They have beaten nobody outside of Marquette. The teams you reference they have essentially played close like we did. We have won 2 games on the road or at a neutral site. We beat them by 23 on top of everything else. The other stuff puts us above them. Us smacking them by 23 puts us even further imo. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
mdn82 Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 In your opinion. Not the voters. I don’t think you’re understanding how the rankings work. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appDude I am twice your age. I knew how the rankings worked long before you were a glimmer of hope. If you want to be a hipster on this subject you are wrong too. Data backs that up. You really think random Joe from California is watching IU games not on national television? No. They are following the pack and from a rankings perspective they are usually a week or two behind. That doesn’t make Marquette better than us. Quite the opposite actually. Our wins are far superior to theirs. Make fun of PSU all you want but that’s still a tier 2 win. Northwestern at home. Same. Neutral win against Butler is a tier 1 win. We beat Marquette. Tier 1. Louisville. Same. Being against grain just to argue isn’t justification. Stack up the resumes and tell me who is better. IU all day. Then you say my opinion not the voters. Have they not proven themselves to be idiots that don’t look to give true meaning behind their votes? NJIT got a vote? Purdue getting top 20 votes at 6-5? Yeah their opinion matters smh. HoosierAloha Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Perception at the time of the game was that they were that good. Most writers will look at where a team was ranked during the week and who they beat or who they lost to and move teams up and down like that. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appI was simply stating I didn't think KSU was the good. We all know the pollsters have a wacky way of ranking teams. If IU and Marquette played on a neutral floor I like IU's chances. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app mamasa 1 Quote
mdn82 Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 What’s funny is highly doubt you have watched more than one Marquette game other than IU but sitting here telling us they have played better. If you were USPS I trust that. But you aren’t and I know for a fact you haven’t. You are a fan of the NBA. No real prospects on Marquette that would concern you. If it’s against the norm you will argue it. I should have known better. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote

Week3: Marquette #40(7) lost to IU 96-73, beat Presbyterian 74-55. Indiana #27(74) beat #24 Marquette 96-73, lost to Arkansas 73-72. Indiana #22(226) beat Butler 71-68. This is simple if you just watch how things move. It is just a ranking by the week. They look at what you’ve done most recently(that week) and move teams up and down. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app If that were the case, why did Marquette get 70 more points for a week that they didn't play a game during?
