The fact that he was placed under official arrest is interesting to me.   Hard not to believe the police didn't know who he was and possibly try to mediate the situation on the spot.  Was the evidence of abuse that compelling?

Hey now, this is Texas. He's not the football coach.

So apparently Texas still has not determined whether Beard will be on the sidelines tonight??? I mean the only path here is to at least put him on leave until you've gathered info right?

Yeah kind of sad that this news broke early this morning and 8 hours later, Texas still hasn't announced that Beard is not coaching tonight. I think that shows which was this is going to go.

This is just epically bad from a PR standpoint for UT if they let him coach tonight. How pivotal of a game is Home against Rice that you can't just say "hey coach you're sitting this one out"? Regardless of your long game play here.

Yep. I predict the charges will be dropped or at most end up as a misdemeanor. UT will probably wait for it to go through the courts before doing anything. He'll keep his job but they'll wait for it to go through the courts which will probably be after the season. If it ends up a misdemeanor, they'll suspend him for an exhibition game next season.

That's my guess at how this will end up. That's a shame if he did do what he's accused of (which I'm guessing he probably did). Society is starting to take domestic violence more seriously but still not serious enough.

But I do agree with RCS above just say Coach you spent 12 hours locked up today, just go home and we'll let someone else coach tonight and go from there.

Definitely, that is what should happen. I don't think it will.

I see no way in He** he is on the sideline for this game. Just the optics of that would be, leaving aside university policy and internal investigation, etc., well, fill in the blank.

If she agrees to drop all charges, couldn't the prosecutor still proceed with charges if they feel enough evidence exists?

I saw a podcast at the time with Goodman where he alluded to drinking issues.

This is what I had heard as well.  Again, just rumors.  But the rumors were that he not only was a heavy drinker but was also an angry drunk.

Yes. The question is if they have this other evidence. Other witnesses and/or photos of injuries. I just don't have a lot of confidence in the justice system. Especially for DV and even more specifically when it involves famous and/or rich white men.

As much as it pains me to admit this.. at this point, Matt Painter is the new Bo Ryan. Doesn't matter who is on the roster year to year. They will be good as long as he is coaching.

almost.  Bo Ryan did go to two final fours and was 25-14 in the tournament.  Painter has none and is 17-13.

Yeah the drinking itself is definitely more than a rumor. Just a bizarre tweet/statement.

That’s pretty much the definition of an addict.  Had quit the addiction and then started inventing reasons to go back….and one that literally makes no sense.

This is the talk that's been around here for a long time now -- IU absolutely dodged a bullet in staying way away

I’m kind of wondering how hard of a bullet it was to even dodge? It seems like even a surface background check into this guy reveals he’s an a-hole with a drinking problem, let alone things that are being alleged now.
