College Bball Thread

This popped up on my Facebook page today. Didn't seek it out; it just appeared.

I guess the highlighted name means McDermott is this fan group's choice. Just for the heck of it, I read through some of the comments (no -- not all 700-plus) and I didn't see one mentioning Dusty. Wonder if that's because they think his heart is set on IU, or they don't think he has the coaching chops to succeed in Columbus?

I’m finding it more and more difficult to watch a random B10 game. Stylistically, it’s just not that enjoyable. A down year is not doing the league any favors. Maybe the mega Big45EC conference will be a little less painful to watch.

Nope. It'll only make it worse.

If UCLA and Oregon could get things going again it would help. But Washington and USC are routinely bad. That was a football/tv play only.

Either way itll make the league worse. More losses. The bottom will get WAY worse. The middle will eat each other. You're looking at getting a max of 10 teams of 18 into the tourney. That's freaking terrible. Just waters things down. But it's all about money and TV deals. It'll make football worse as well.

Really, really weak slate even for a Friday night.  Aztecs/Lobos will be good but what's the second best game?  Maybe Ohio/Toledo?

Probably.  Harvard/Cornell should be a good one.   I will watch Nova/Georgetown but Nova should win easily. I like watching Cooley coach.

Do you think “mid-major” leagues see decent success in the tournament because their style of play is cleaner? Is there some truth to that or is it nonsense?

Someone posted something a while back about mid majors played a lot of 3 guard offenses since they have difficulty recruiting bigs.  Most Big Ten teams don't play 3 or 4 guards at a time.  College basketball is a guards game, especially with the 3-point shot.  I think that style translates well to the tournament.

This was an interesting read.  Check out this thread currently on page 2.

How much does the Big Ten affect Woody roster and scheme?

Outside of years like this year, our problem is lack of elite teams. We haven’t won a title as a conference in going on 25 years.  We’re like the bizzaro ACC.

If UCLA can get a good coach, it would add to our handful of teams that could be elite. Maybe Oregon too with their resources and a coaching change as this altman thing may have run its course. In any event it shouldn’t be quite as bad as the Nebraska/PSU/Rutgers/Maryland additions were.
