Friday matinee action. Merrimack at Sacred Heart , 11 am tip on ESPN+.  Take Merrimack and lay the 2.5 pts on the road. You can parlay that with the under 141.5, but MAAC games are notoriously unstable with their over/unders.

And I probably need to look into finding a hobby :)

Merrimack holds on for a 66-65 win. Lost the spread and the parlay but did cash on the under. We’ll get em later tonight

Was thinking about the micro-debate in basketball circles about this time last year about whether the 23-24 Montverde team could contend in some mid-major conferences with a fair number of experts arguing that they couldn’t contend in any conference or really compete over a full conference schedule. 15 or so games into their college careers, all at at P4 schools, this is what they’re doing:

Cooper Flagg(Duke). 17.5pts/8.5rebs/3.7assts w/1.6stls & 1.3blks on 46/31/78 splits  31mins

Liam McNeeley(UConn)  13.6pts/5.8rebs/2.6assts on 43/38/85 shooting splits  30mins

Derik Queen(Maryland). 16.0pts/8.0rebs/2.0assts w/1.3stls & 1.1blks on 56/11/76 splits  27mins

Asa Newell(Georgia). 15.5pts/6.9rebs/1.1 assts w/1.2stls & 1.1blks on 59/29/67 splits  27mins

Rob Wright(Baylor). 12.4pts/2.2rebs/4.9assts w/1.0stls & 2.5 to 1 asst/to on 47/41/77 splits  27mins

Curtis Givens(LSU). 5.0pts/1.4rebs/1.7assts on 29/26/77 splits. 15mins

This is just incredible, thank you for thinking to pull this view together. Just amazing stuff... that team was as good as it gets, the best of the best HS basketball teams. Best I'd seen in person since 2008 St. Anthony easily.

They're obviously better... They're playing an average of 26 mins at P4 schools and averaging 80 points per game. Insane.

Looked it up - in D1, that would be tied with Marquette and Duke... More than Kansas, Purdue, IU.

Averaging 16 assists per game - tied with Florida, Georgetown (12-3!), more than Illinois, Wisconsin, Ole Miss.

Their rebounds and steals numbers are also more than several notable D1 teams.

Six kids averaging 26 minutes doing that. They'd be a super team at the collegiate level too.

I might take the 19-20 Montverde team that had Cunningham and Barnes and Moses Moody and that bunch on the strength of a little more depth. But those 2 teams are the entire list.

For sure - that team was an all-timer too. If you put the 23-24 six on a team and bumped their minutes up to 30, there'd be 20 minutes left. Add Kayden Allen from this year's team or preferably a big guy and I think they'd compete/win in most every conference.

Looking forward to following their careers. Hope they go onto have similar pro success to the 19-20 team and sure they will.

For the HS basketball fans out there, if you'll indulge me about 2008 St. Anthony, because they're the reason I'm a basketball fan...

Featured seniors #16 national recruit Mike Rosario (signed to RU, transferred to Florida, played overseas professionally), Tyshawn Taylor who was a big contributor at Kansas rated #86 nationally by ESPN. Also included a freshman Kyle Anderson aka Slo-Mo who was a real treat to watch particularly at that level. Complete control of the game by the time he was a senior. In 2012, he or Shabazz Muhammad were the #1 SF. Junior SG 6-6 Dominic Cheek rated #19 nationally as a senior and signed with Villanova.

Senior guards Travon Woodall who signed with Pitt, then later transferred to Fordham... where his HS teammate Jio Fontan excelled as a Freshman on the A10 Rookie team before transferring to Southern Cal and having a very solid college career.

Six seniors on that team, all went D1 and had varying degrees of success.

Bob Hurley coached 39 years, won 26 state championships and had multiple undefeated teams. No senior class of his ever graduated without a state championship and I believe he graduated every kid who played for him as a senior, which was no small feat in Jersey City, especially during his time. It's a shame that St. Anthony could not afford to operate anymore and had to shut its doors in 2017.

Bob Hurley Sr. is an extremely purpose-driven, old school basketball coach who genuinely cares about his players and values... He is everything right and good about the sport.

Minutes before that they were doing a recap and ran several shots of an agitated Cronin and my 9 year old pipes up with "Why does he look so weird?" Lol

Might be fortunate that both our men's and women's teams are hosting USC and UCLA this season.  Not getting any better in California.

Matt Norlander - After decision yesterday to play both games back to back at Pepperdine’s campus, now the LMU-Pepperdine men’s and women’s games are both getting postponed today, source tells CBS Sports, due to spreading wildfires.
