The ol' left-hander -- Lefty Driesell -- died this morning. 

Was a legend in these parts and lived in my city -- Virginia Beach. 

Quite a character.

Sad news... but '"the old left-hander" was Joe Nuxhall, the Cincinnati Reds broadcaster... he signed off of every broadcast with his trademark phrase "This is the old left-hander, rounding third and heading for home".

Will never forget his quotes and how in awe he was of our team after we absolutely routed one of his best Maryland teams in the second round of the 1981 NCAA Tournament:  "They were the best team I've played since I got my program going.  Nobody's beat us like that.  If they were playing the 76ers today, they would have beat the 76ers.  There's nothing I can say but congratulations.  I hope they win the national championship."  And of course, we did.

Creighton at Butler. I forgot the All star game was this weekend. Kinda cool for them that there are a handful of NBA guys in attendance.

Butler was on the losing end of one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. Cost them 2-3 points right before half.  Hard to complain about “big Ten refs” after that.

Virginia is so good in close games. They can’t even make FT’s today but are going to close this out. Still amazes me a bunch of seniors botched that tourney game last year.  
 

Bennett loses his best player next year but has a nice young core coming back next year.

In ACC country and in particularly Maryland and Hampton Roads, Driesell was known as the ol' left-hander. 

I was just posting his obit and letting people know he died -- not trying to start a debate.

No worries... I grew up listing to the Reds broadcasts and when I read "ol left-hander", I could actually hear Nuxhall saying those words...

With that said, I do remember Driesell's nickname of "Lefty". In fact, I didn't know/remember his given name was "Charles" until I read the obit that you linked...

Jameer Nelson Jr with an off balance well guarded three pointer with 1.1 seconds left to knock off Kansas State.  Huge win for TCU, quad 1.  Quad 2 loss for a Kansas State team that was already on the outside looking in.

This UConn Marquette matchup is high level. They’re not even playing the same sport as IU right now.
