Some D3 kid dropped 41 on Minnesota last night. 2 things: 1) Kid is clearly not a D3 player. 2) His teammates almost certainly were and yet Minny couldn’t get the ball out of his hands.

That may not bode well.

We play Minnesota twice. Win. Win.

Yet another multi-transfer waiver denied per Rothstein -

UCF's Antwann Jones had his waiver for immediate eligibility denied by the NCAA and will not be eligible until December, per Johnny Dawkins. Jones is a multi-time transfer who is a not a graduate. Previously played at Memphis, Creighton, and Louisiana.

Johnny Dawkins:

"UCF basketball was going to stink with Antwann Jones, and I see no reason why we cannot stink without him."

Reminder: he just turned 27.

This is correct and yet I’m confused on a couple points.

1. he spent two years at Evansville (RS, FR) then three at Memphis (SO, JR, SR).

2. shouldn’t he have a COVID year like anyone else who played in 2019-2020 OR 2021?

3. His Wikipedia page says he played a post grad year…that doesn’t account for how he got to be 27. Wouldn’t most guys be 19 post-grad, 20 RS, then 21-24 the four years he played? Did he finish HS at 21?

In 2018-2019, he was ruled academically ineligible and the year counted due to it being a 'delayed enrollment.  https://bluffcitymedia.co/ncaa-denies-deandre-williams-eligibility-waiver-williams-college-career-ends-after-three-seasons-at-memphis/#:~:text=The application stemmed from the,a “delayed enrollment” violation.

The application stemmed from the 2018-19 season, in which he was enrolled at Evansville but didn’t play due to being academically ineligible. The NCAA still counted that year of eligibility against him, however, citing a “delayed enrollment” violation. Williams and his legal team alleged that he received bad advice from people in positions of authority while in high school, which includes having him enroll in an online institution that wasn’t NCAA accredited, and that the violation would’ve never happened without that poor advisement.

Aha ok so the post-grad year counts as one of his “5 to play 4,” then he redshirted and played 3: that’s 4 seasons that count in 5 years, and his actual 4th season seeing the court is the COVID year.

so my amateur evaluation is he’s dead to rights on appeal. He’s still like 2 years older than the typical student who would’ve been leaving HS for a post-grad year…just interesting, I guess.

I believe Memphis knew it was going to be DOA as well.

Trilly suggesting Duke may have one of their commitments at risk after landing Ngongba or if they land V J. Edgecombe?

They’ve already got a bunch of wing types in their class. If they bring in Edgecombe you have to assume one of them steps away. Maybe Darren Harris. I think he was their 1st ‘24 commit. That’d be pretty cold-blooded.
