Would they have an argument for the #1 spot? Would have wins against Creighton, Iowa State, #6 UNC and #8 Gonzaga. What other team would have a better resume so far?
Unranked to #1, Not sure that has ever happened, but from a pure resume perspective and eye test, they have  a case IMO.

They play at Louisville on Tuesday. Crazy they will have played 3 top 10 teams in a row

Michigan about to fly way up in the Polls.

They could go from unranked to being top 7-10. Hard to believe they were unranked but I guess they were because of new coach, lost top three scorers (although a very nice returning core) and picked to come in 6th or so in the BT.  Surprisingly looking as good as any BT team I’ve seen.

Very talented Michigan team. Only reason people overlooked them this year was because of the coaching change. I don’t blame people for doing it but they returned veteran players that have been use to winning. They would be my example of talent coming in many forms. Not one top 50 recruit. A senior (67) point guard surround by 3 and 4 star kids ranked over 100 that have developed over their time at Michigan. Beilein left Howard a ton of veteran talent

I’ll definitely have to think about putting them top 5. If they passed UofL for #1... that’d make a very interesting game come Tuesday.

What is there to think about? They are undefeated and played one of the toughest schedules in America, kicking the crap out of two top ten teams.

Who else has done that?

I think the coaching change, not knowing how his system would work (I read a lot of comments from their players about learning new terms, more focus on going to the post, faster transition offense, etc.) and also losing their top three (over 60% of points) scorers were the big unknowns that led to the low ratings. That being said, as you mention what was left are some very talented players that have been in a winning culture.
They are going to contend for the conference.

Another team that impressed so far as been DePaul. They have a chance to win their 3rd road game today at Minny. DePaul up 5 with 11:30 to go. Goes to show how important grad transfers can be. Moore getting a waiver completely changed their teams outlook this year.

Tim Miles is on the call
