He seems like the flavor of the month to me. I need to see more sustained success from him. He certainly is a far better tactician than CTC.

He has done really well considering what took place before he got there with the strange timing of Brandon Miller leaving which left a lot of things into question and Collier wanted to make sure that there was going to some stability because they were afraid of losing recruits and that players would not leave before Holtmann got in and there some who were recruited by Miller who had left.

But can he recruit at a high level to have that chance though? I'm not sold he's capable of being a homerun hire for us.

As an in-game coach I think he's proven to be quite good.  As a recruiter, a little early to know for certain, but his 2016 class included Joey Brunk 4-star center out of Southport and Kamar Baldwin (3-star) who's already moved into the starting lineup. His 2017 class ranking is even better.   FYI, you won't find any meaningful Butler statistics for Brunk as he's played very little and will likely redshirt.  He's missed a lot of time because of his father's health issues.

I keep him on the list. I will always take sound fundamental basketball. Can he recruit at IU? Does he need to recruit at a high level? Questions to ponder. I know I would love to see what he could do with our current roster.

With coaches coming from smaller programs that's an unknown.  It was an unknown with Crean too though.

Looked it up Kelan Martin was a 4* out of Lville #119

On a side note, look at the players JBJ was ranked ahead of.

Yeah but what are the odds that we hit the powerball twice?

Coach K also came from Army.

Any hire is an unknown regardless of what school they come from.

You could put coach K somewhere else and if he didn't have the same support system he might not be successful. Unlikely but it's possible.

I agree and to be fair most hires have that question before they take on a major school.

Argument I'm seeing a lot:

"Fred Glass clearly doesn't know what he's doing regarding the basketball team, because he hasn't fired Crean."

That is an opinion that I cannot present a solid argument against in the context of the basketball program.

Following point from same individuals:

"Let's take a shot at someone! Anyone is better than Crean at point!"

This however... everyone who has made the first argument realizes that Fred Glass will also be the man making the decision on this diamond in the rough homerun hire, right?

Apologies, probably should have put the last two in the Fire Crean thread. App won't let me delete though...

Good teams find ways to win close games...wish we could say that about ourselves. I would kill to have a player like Swanigan who you can count on to score or get fouled in the clutch

That same team that found a way to win a close game on the road also found a way to lose a close game at home
