rebelhoosier848891 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 We laugh---but do not be shocked if our recruiting class for next year is: Juwan---OG----Lyle----Kasongo. I kid you not---it is a real possibility. You don't really think McClain went to see Kasongo just for the heck of it in Idaho AFTER he was not accepted to IU. Yes--he did. I don't know if it will happen but I know IU is keeping its options open. What a class---extremely talented but half of it would be extremely concerning! Quote

HoosierAloha Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 No denying his talent, if he gets his mind right and the work ethic is there he can become a special player. I hope he is doing what is best for him and the staff is doing what is best for the program. If coach thinks he can turn the kids life around I'm all for it. Happydaze 1 Quote

MemphisHoosier Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Love the debate here, pleased to find a civil convrsaton on such a polarizing character! With that said, I would gladly take JaQuan on the roster. For those who have been around the site for a while, there was conversation last Fall/Winter when CTC was in Evansville for a speaking engagement and JaQuan tweeted that "his city loved Coach Crean more than they love him" he closed his tweet with "...and I understand why they love him." I mention that antecdote becuase I truly believe that if any coach can help/reach JaQuan and enable him to reach his dreams of playing in the league...it is CTC, and JaQuan realizes this. Again just my two cents. WayneFleekHoosier, Stuhoo, Alabaster Thunder and 3 others 6 Quote
Stuhoo Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I gotta say; I am on record as being a fan of high character kids, and I know he has a bit of a history... but there's something about Jaquan that makes me think he is not a Jeremy Hollowell or Ron Patterson, and that if y'all hung out with him, he'd be extremely likable. The kind of kid you'd root for big-time to overcome and succeed. Agree with this. I'm sure others here have seen him even more than I have but he is ridiculously good. I've seen him in person over 10 times with both Bosse and Spiece and honestly I thought he and Trevon were the two best players on the Spiece team ( better than James and Trey) and I believe Jaquan is easily the best pro prospect of the four. He is visibly out of shape and yet still puts up incredible numbers against elite competition. He absolutely needs to cut body fat and add strength and stamina, but I believe at a setting like IU he would absolutely do that. I've talked to him 5-6 times and he is an extremely nice guy. One can tell just from talking to him that he just isn't very intelligent, which is why he is having trouble gaining admission. He has obviously made some mistakes in the past but I do not believe at all that he is a bad kid, but has lacked guidance at home. I think IU is the perfect place for him to succeed. We know he is very close with James and I think we can all agree that a relationship with Coach Crean can only be beneficial to him. If Jaquan can get his academics in line, I would be glad to have him here Happydaze, BTOWN, NoahW35 and 2 others 5 Quote

That would be one Thomas Bryant. Saw a note that Bryant wasn't considering Mizzo anymore and with the Jaquan chatter I tend to think something is brewing. How the staff could sign 4 players is the question.Makes a couple of the late signings look desperate and at this point a hindrance to reaching that goal. Seems to be a theme. rebelhoosier848891 and thebigweave 2 Quote
Hovadipo Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I've seen some posts starting to touch on the point, but I don't think anybody has brought it up. Does anyone else think Crean is trying to get a last minute Jaquan/Bryant package? I know some people don't like the package deal thing, but I'm sure us giving Jaquan a shot wouldn't hurt our chances with Bryant. MemphisHoosier, WayneFleekHoosier, Happydaze and 1 other 4 Quote

KingPG21 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Hollowell Jr. You mean in terms of lack of on court potential/performance? Because it seems like they would be pretty different dudes off the court Stuhoo 1 Quote

The kind of kid you'd root for big-time to overcome and succeed. My thing is, JH and Patterson are both like able guys more than likely as well. A lot of the disappointment/anger that fans aim at those two comes from our limited view of the two. We don't hang out with these guys on a daily basis, we don't know who they actually are. Obviously this can easily be applied to JaQuan as well. I just have reservations about bringing in another guy who could have off the court stuff Quote

Walking Boot of Doom Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 If this is really going on, I'll bet Coach Blackmon and Dr. Blackmon are helping out ALOT behind the scenes. If the Blackmons can help facilitate this and essentially "babysit" JaQuan, maybe this could be a positive for everyone. But this is still somewhat of a concerning development. I trust Crean's judgement, but I always am worried about another Hollowell hurting the team's chemistry. Quote
