Steve Alford, future IU coach?

Recommended Posts

A family friend of mine recently caught up with his good friend, none other than Steve Alford. During their lunch, my family friend brought up recruiting in Indiana and at the end what he thought of Tom Crean's position at IU. Alford said that Crean has two more years to do something with this team before he is axed and only one year left if this year's team is downright terrible. My family friend then asked him if he would come back to IU to coach the team. Although he did not give a definite answer, he did not say no to the idea. I found this very interesting.

I don't really ever see it happening. I like the idea of Alford, but I think a lot of IU fans wouldn't tolerate him for too long either. Alford hasn't had much, if any, tournament success and thats all i've read about on here and on ITH. He's a good recruiter and has done well at all the programs he's coached but how far has he made it that far in the tournament. I'd personally like to have him here, but I just don't see it happening

Wow! Gotta say I have a hard time believing that Alford would have any comment about Crean's future and timetables .

I have no problem believe he would have comments. I just have a hard time believing he knows anything more than we do. His statement is completely in line with everything in the forum and in the media.

Thanks for sharing your unique insider info! Cool to have connections like that. Now send a message along to him, and let him know to stay away from our recruits

Please no.

If he hadn't gone to IU, nobody would even think of Steve Alford being the coach here.

I wouldn't say no completely, but I'm there with you man

Appreciate the information as that is what message boards are for-----just hope it doesn't turn into another Crean bash-fest!

Steve Alford was awesome as a player---but his coaching credentials aren't really any better then Crean's.

We have our Coach---everybody (including him) knows he has to win this year....If he doesn't ---and we don't make the NCAA tournament--- then the heat will be turned up and we can all debate who the next coach should be...

Until then---My team is on the floor!   And--my Coach is on the floor too!

I personally think we win this year--Go Hoosiers!
