6'4" Guard Nick Zeisloft joins Hoosiers

Recommended Posts

Where's his minutes coming realisticly? I count 4 guards ahead of him and if Hoetzel shoots as well as last night, his size gets him minutes over Z for rebounding. Guards won't be our problem though, its our weak inside game and Hanner and Devin getting in foul trouble. But, I'm ready for them to play so a lot less speculation.

I think Zeisloft, Robinson and Johnson are all on par with each other. There have already been reports that Zeisloft could start. I think that third guard spot will be a rotation of the three. Zeisloft showed last night as well that he can shoot. He plays smart, which is hard to say for Robinson 100% of the time and Johnson will be a freshman and have freshman mistakes

Good analysis gentlemen---I also see Z3 getting quality minutes any time we need a steadying influence.  I could see him on the floor a lot our first big ten road game or first neutral court game away from the Hall.  I see him getting more minutes than Max at first but less than the other 4 guards--Yogi/JBJ/RoJo/Stan. I predict a solid 12-15 minutes a game for him in a largely 3 guard offense. If he gets hot--leave him in longer!

I agree about the 3rd guard spot.Probably wont matter who starts there because I could see any of the 3 especially Stan and RoJo starting with Z3 being the steadying influence when they need calmed down.

I like the sound of that at the end. I don't know how excited I am of three 6' guards or thereabouts starting with 6'7" and 6'8 underneath. That's why I have been advocating the return of the Hurryin Hoosiers. 100+ points per game.

Who are the three 6' guards?  We only have one on roster.  Starting a backcourt of 6', 6'4", 6'4" is not small at the wing positions.  It is safe to say this team will run a lot just like from 2011-2013

Average "athlete", in other words he's not a good athlete.  Okay, so he's not quick and can't jump.

This line is in there...."has interest and offers from Michigan, Davidson, Marist and a collection of ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12, Atlantic 10, Ivy League, Patriot League and American East teams including Creighton."

The odds of this guy contributing to UM are slim to none, and we shouldn't expect a role player from the MVC to be much of a contributor at this level especially when he's only shown to be a decent shooter.  We've got people expecting him to contribute and be a dead eye shooter, that's not realistic based on his playing history.  Let's not build him up to be something he's never shown like we did with Evan Gordon.

Are we worried about D3 transfer Duncan Robinson torching us?  I'm not.  Would we be worried about role player Nick Ziesloft, Illinois State's 5th leading scorer (and they were a pretty crappy offense) on another team?  No.

Hey, EG did everything I ever wanted or expected him to:
1. Be a member of the Gordon family so that playing for IU is more of a family tradition

2. Get Eron to come to games

Anything else just would have been greedy.

I've never in my life worried about a particular player form another team torching us. Torch away! I'm about Indiana winning the game, I couldn't care less about some opposing guy having a career day in a loss

He gets his minutes as the fifth guard on a team that starts three guards. He finishes games on the court when we're ahead because he's 90% from the line and does not turn it over.

Up five with one minute to play and it's our ball?  Nick Zeisloft is on the court.

Took the words out of my mouth...

He is an aggregate 38% 3 point shooter. People talked about how poor we were from deep last year and that was our team average. He is an average 3 point shooter, at least to date. Maybe he improves this year but nothing about him screams "sniper"

take out our point guard and our center and we hit a whopping 27.8% from 3.

Exciting--I can't remember this much quality guard depth in a long time!

Let it rain 333333333333333333333333333333's!

Quality guard depth? Yogi is great, then what. We honestly have no idea what to realistically expect from JBJ, Z is being overrated by some of you guys, Stan showed flashes but never showed the ability to consistently hit a jump shot, and Rojo is getting overrated as well.

Stan is not a jump shooter. We don't need Stan to be a jump shooter on this team. His strength is in his getting in the lane and mixing things up.Plenty of shooters to kick to.

Ive got a pretty good Idea that what JBJ,RoJo and Z bring to the table will be a lot more conductive to success than what the players they replaced gave us.Actually I'll go out on a limb here and say I know they will.

Z has a confidence about him that is vital in tight situations..RoJo was rated as a high 4 star coming out and Blackman was a burger boy.Looks like a lot of people think those 2 are OK players. After watching them I have to say I concur.

Hollowell was a high 4 star coming out of high school as well, then proceeded to do absolutely nothing here. There is no way to say that without having seen Rojo play at this level for even a second that we can really say he'll be fine.

With Z, I've made myself well stated in the past. Some seem to want to act like his previous college experience in a lesser program, against consistently lesser competition doesn't seem to matter as much as one Canada trip and a three point shooting contest and scrimmage. And with Stan, Rebel was talking about letting it rain threes with our guards, Stan is the last guard I want to see shooting a lot of threes

Rankings aren't the end all be all. I think JBJ will be real good, but people are acting like he is going to be a stud from day one. I'm just saying some of you guys really need to pump the brakes a little bit.

My biggest issue is saying we have quality depth. Just because players are of equal talent that doesn't mean it is quality depth. Outside of A.J. Purdue's roster is all equally sucky, does that mean they have quality depth because they all have about the same amount of talent

why are you removing players to build a new average that helps your story? If we are playing that game then I will choose to remove our two worst shooters and now we have a team average that is in the 40s% and near tops in the conference! Stats are so fun when you get to artificially manipulate them!

I guess the point I was trying to make was given what Ive seen so far  in an even trade I take JBJ ,RoJo, and Z over Hollowell ,Gordan  and Etherington all day long.I realize that 2 are freshman and that the other played in a lesser league.Hollowell never showed the fire or work ethic that Ive seen from these guys and Gordan was an average player at best.Etherington was a shooter that couldn't or wouldn't shoot.

Regarding Stan Rob...  I am more looking forward to seeing if he can hit the open man with a good pass.  We all know that he can get in the lane, finish around the rim, and get fouled but he needs to add to his game.  If he is an improved shooter, good, that will help.  If he can deliver a pass when a second defender goes to stop him, even better.  I think the big leap in Stan's shot will come between his sophomore and junior years.

You'll be eating your words by the end of the season. For some reason IU fans have turned into these negative people. I wholeheartedly agree that we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves but to say Blackmon Jr is going to be decent or just okay is ridiculous. He was recruited hard by every top program in the country.
At the end of the season I'll make sure to come back and remind you of your comments hahaha

...... I'll be eating my words? How exactly am I being negative? I'm saying you guys need to cool your jets. Also, where did I say anywhere that JBJ would just be decent or just okay, don't put words in my mouth. I said the comments that he was going to be a stud like some are making him out to be, again need to cool their jets. Go ahead and come back to me at the end of the season and tell me more things I never said.

Edit: Holy freaking crap. I actually went ahead and reread my comment, since originally I was just going by my memory. I said, "I think he'll be real good." Where on earth did you gather that I said he would be decent or just okay.

We have the best backcourt in the BIG, so how do we have no depth? Everyone besides you can see that JBJ will be a stud from day one. He has been his whole career and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Also, would like to hear why you think Rojo is overrated? To quote Crean, he's a "Pitbull" that plays hard defense, has a great bball iq, doesn't turn it over, gets to the rim, hits shots, I could go on. Rojo is gonna do big things this year. He's probably my favorite player on this team.

Because for some reason some of you guys want to act like freshmen are going to come in and perform at an extremely high level, despite never playing at this level before. Sound familiar, kind of like last season? Once again some of you guys really need to pump the breaks, especially on Rojo.

Also, I don't give a flying shit what Crean is saying about how players are performing in practices and other things with regards to how that will translate directly to the court. That is coach speak, Crean pumped up a number of players last year in the off-season as well..... then they preceded to earn none of those honors.
