This team has soooooooooo much to work on. And better do it quick because Northwestern won't be some pushover. Chiles has also really really like the 1st quarter against Indiana. So many problems that need addressed. As of now, we would get torched by teams like Miami or Georgia.

Dude it’s preseason. We aren’t trying to win every possession we’re trying random arrangements to see what works. Did you not just see Miami only beat wake forest by 13.

To add Becker had his guy beat so often but we were trying to see what else was working.

Never forget all the complaining at halftime of the Kennesaw State game last year that we had a long way to go and 2024 was a one-year wonder.

Wake Forest didn't get beat 70-20 last week by Georga or 49-14 by Nevada.

And what maybe WKU learned something from those losses?  
 

Maybe IU and Georgia were trying different things. 
 

We aired it out more against Howard. Same as Georgia did against WKU. So this  week both teams scored less. IU was consistently not looking deep and trying to see what we could do closer to the line of scrimmage. 
 

And once again Vanilla playbook stop worrying. Two straight shut outs.  9 scoreless quarters out scoring the opponents like 100-0 in that span.

We actually went to the air more against WKU. We only threw 16 passes between 3 QBs against Howard. 25 yesterday. We just didn't look good. Defense has been getting sliced up by UNT and WKU. Thankfully the defense was able to hold when it came to it for the shutout, but USC is scoring in all of those spots. So far against FBS comp we have only 2 sacks. Haven't been successfully getting the pressure we need and that has nothing to do with being vanilla unless the coaches have told the guys to not be as aggressive. Our secondary was always going to be the weakest link of the team and it shows.

Take away the one Becker completion and it was like 12 yards.  That pass was available all day but Hoover was trying the shorter stuff 
 

Im not sure if it’s the concept of preseason you don’t or if you don’t just understand football. Transitive property doesn’t work.  It especially doesn’t work when the team isn’t trying to run up the score.
 

Not football but Kenpom basketball metics don’t treat a 50 point blowout differently than a 38 point blowout. Because it doesn’t matter

There is no "preseason." It's the season. This team hasn't looked very interested in playing. Charlie Becker is basically the only 100% positive so far. Which should be expected I guess from the best player on the team.

It would appear that the coaching staff has always experimented with these games. 

I kind of got the feeling yesterday we were intentionally not taking deep shots. 

Against Howard, Hoover was missing open guys and constantly trying to hit home runs. Yesterday kind of felt like the staff was trying to force him into taking what was there and moving the sticks. 

It doesnt appear this season that we are trying to win these games 70-0.Cig cares more about developing the team, which at times may appear ugly.

I was in a section with a lot of WKU fans and they were dumbfounded how their defense was getting stopped. They were also impressed at how much more active their defense was from previous weeks.

We were favored by 40.

We won by 38 while playing our backups and running out the clock in the fourth quarter. Against CUSA team that gets good every year.

Every game is not going to be a video game style ridiculous blowout.

For instance, new kickoff specialist Paddy McAteer has 16 kickoffs, AND ONLY 15 HAVE GONE FOR TOUCHBACKS.

Now the one that was returned only got out to the 17 yard line, BUT STILL.

Just another slacker that is NOT 100% a positive.

No he's seemed to do pretty well. Interesting in the college game how the kicking position has become so specialized with field goal kickers and deep legs for kickoffs.

What I read is that he has failed  and given up 8 extra yards on 15 of 16 KOs.

Five years ago, we snuck out of WKU with a 33-31 win. We didn't win another game after that. 

 

We just beat WKU 38-0, out-gained them by over 300 yards, had no turnovers and only two penalties, and it's getting labeled as an "uneven" or sloppy performance. 

 

Crazy world we now find ourselves in.
