Dark Horses to Overachieve

  • Iowa

Since 2015, Iowa is 1 of 4 programs to record at least 8 wins in every full college football season. The other 3 are Bama, Georgia, and O$U. I don't consider them dark horses or overachievers. They're consistent and don't get enough national appreciation. They're a big part of the reason the conference is the top dog in the country right now. They'll win 8 games this year and one of those wins might be against O$U. And when the playoff expands, they'll be a constant team in the mix, assuming Coach Ferentz is still calling the shots of course. Coaching matters.

Agree with you 100%.

It's semantics - again Iowa has been picked for an eigth-tenth-ish conference finish, and again they will overachieve.

At some point, consistently winning 8 games or more for over a decade and having NFL representation folks will come around and realize it's not overachieving. Coaching matters.

Here is what he said.  Positive and mature.  Seems like not much PT available.

Doesn't he have to sit a year since he didn't enter during the window? So little chance at PT becomes 0 chance at PT.

We have a lot of guys who were recruited in the last three years who may not be good enough to play now. Nothing wrong with them seeking a better spot for them. That's the problem with a rapidly improving roster.

Wishing him the best.  Unfortunate he doesn't want to stay and compete but maybe he thinks he won't see the field or as I read elsewhere, they had him catching passes at TE in spring so maybe he doesn't want to switch positions at this point to see the field.  Hope he lands somewhere he can play.

For his center stage comments and Q&A this year, he was pretty down the middle.  No notably sound bites.

I guess 2025 said it all.

I thought his ending comments were terrific about no whining and complaining that's why we are the best conference LOL

He was just on with the B1G network crew.  I'm sure it will be posted if you missed it.  He's taking a bit of an exception to being the National Champion and being picked 3rd in conference. I am really glad he's our coach.

It's not that he says evocative stuff.

It's that when he chooses to say evocative stuff he is 100% spot on right.

Cig with a bit of an understatement today:

"I thought we took some necessary steps forward last season."

Cig could cap off next year our scoring opponents 1400-0 for the year and would at some point same “Punting Game could use some work”

This was an interesting bit of team news.  Not sure Brunner has played out there in a while.

Always saw Ajani as a guard. He got beat up on a little bit outside last year, but for what he is he did an admirable job. I like the long term prospect of kicking him inside.
