Stuhoo Posted April 24, 2025 Posted April 24, 2025 Slower week and the off-season, so thought I'd get our history buffs activated. Name your all-time IUBB defensive team. Say why... or don't! (of note - please don't turn this into a discussion of how good an all-around player Calbert or Isaih were -- we already know that! :) Ready... GO!! Quote
Stuhoo Posted April 24, 2025 Author Posted April 24, 2025 I started the thread, so I get to start: Bobby Wilkerson. Team Captain - best defensive player in IUBB history Victor Oladipo OG Anunoby - for the Jamal Murray tournament shutdown, and so much more. Quinn Buckner - strrrrong, and the other half of the best defensive backcourt in college basketball history Jared Jeffries - so long and so good Just missed my first five: Dane Fife, Dean Garrett, Chris Reynolds, Ray Tolbert, Jeff, Newton, Steve Downing BA47591, go iu bb, cthomas and 2 others 4 1 Quote

Gonna agree with all those. Quote
Pagoda Posted April 24, 2025 Posted April 24, 2025 Man this is difficult, I don't disagree with any of those. Only one I'd add: Alan Henderson: finished his career #2 in rebounds, #5 in steals, and #3 in blocks in IUBB history. One honorable mention: Isiah: Before my time, but he was a steals machine. go iu bb 1 Quote

You'd have to think that TJD would have an argument, too. Finished #1 in school history in both rebounds and blocks. Not as good at getting steals as Henderson. Pagoda 1 Quote

I’d probably bounce OG and put in a true big. One of Zeller/TJD/Henderson. Quote

BA47591 Posted April 24, 2025 Posted April 24, 2025 The original list here is petty rock solid. Bellamy, Jeffries, Wilkerson, Oladipo, Reynolds would be a line-up that could defend Not sure we could shoot very well though. Quote
68Hoosier Posted April 24, 2025 Posted April 24, 2025 Greg Graham played some pretty good D back in the day. go iu bb 1 Quote

steubenhoosier Posted April 24, 2025 Posted April 24, 2025 Ahh… the false narrative of OG at IU lives on. Freshman year played in 34 games but a little less than 14 mpg. Clearly a sub. Averaged 1.4 DRB per game. 0.8 steals and 0.8 blocks per game. Sophomore year, 25 mpg in 16 games before he got hurt. 3.7 DRB per game. 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. No idea how this “prowess” constitutes qualifying for one of the best defensive players all-time at IU. Scotty R, CSP and moyemayhem 2 1 Quote
