Has anyone seen what kind of budget DeVries will have for assistant salaries? It looks like IU was at just over $1M for those 3 spots.

Preston Murphy has been mentioned as a possible assistant but he's making $450k at Alabama so we'd have to pay him more than 1/2 of the total for 3 assistants under Woodson.

On the football side, IU is committed to paying assistant coaches in addition to the head coach. I hope the same is true for basketball.

The analysis they did where they compared this search to Archie is pretty interesting for 2 reasons 

1) That they spotted it correctly in retrospect.  Archie is struggling again at his new stop

2) That they couldn’t even compare to woody.

Yes, I've heard some people reference it, but I've literally not seen one picture with even his leg in it.  Seems like the two of them shaking hands or at least Woody in the room would have been a photo op that the school would want out regardless if it was sincere or not.

They were top in the big 10 last year, and should be in that range this year.

I know of one player that Darian let know he was leaving for Indiana.  Suspect if Powell ends up at IU, there were at least two.

Seems like that would be an insanely great way to start the new staff based on the little I know about him. Seems to have the goods.

They were both on the staff at Creighton together, and there's rumbles out there that he may consider it.  Murphy has the same spot at the most money either way, what's he got to lose?

Did I see a post here that the salary pool for the coaching staff was only $1M? Seems low for a full staff where the HC is making $5M... hopefully CDV can get that bumped up for some quality guys...

I added up the salaries I saw for the assistant coaches under Woodson to get that number. 

Hunter: $432k

Rosemond: $410k

Walsh: $225k

Those add up to less than $1.1M. I think they also get retention bonuses that a are in the 10s of thousands and bonuses so they do make more than that but not a ton. 

I've looked at few other assistant coaches at other schools and they made more. Luke Murray at UConn is making $750k. Murphy at Alabama is making $450k which is on par with ours but still more. 

I agree that that total for IU seems low, which is why I'm hoping they increase the budget like they did for football. Give the program a chance to hire a big time assistant and retain him for pretty much anything except for a HC job.

I know we’re all optimistic for the future of the program but a top assistant leaving bama for the same role at IU seems like a pretty big risk at the moment.
