Defense is just going to be a problem no matter how well the offense clicks, but the biggest positive is since the benching and Malik’s injury, Ballo looks like the first team all conference guy we expected. He’s an absolute monster playing center in an open lane.

Yea he's been great. Big guys always play harder when they are getting touches and buckets. We are playing through him, and he's playing really hard.

It will be interesting to see what happens when MR comes back.

Prior to tonight MR has averaged 24 minutes a game and Ballo 29. Woody has sometimes had both of them on the bench at the same time (which I don’t understand).

Low hanging fruit would be to NEVER sit both of them at the same time. That  alone, if they both continue to play 24 and 29 minutes, would result in 68% (27 minutes) of the game with just one big in at a time.

That’s what I would expect.  Both are going to start but I would think the subbing will be more staggered to keep one on the bench at a time.

I know Chris says that he only wants Reneau backing up Ballo but I don’t see that happening.  You are going to see them on the court together sometimes.  The key is to pick the moments where the matchup to do so can work.

Was officiating that bad tonight? It didn’t seem any worse than usual. USC had a ton of fouls but…they were fouling the s**t out of us.

There is a reason I used the classic Crean meme every time Muss lost the last couple years.  That guy cry and whines and yells the whole game.   He was out on the court numerous times.  That official had enough and waited until the game was over on the scoreboard before he hit him with a warning which was awesome live because Woody called a timeout and Muss went right at the ref who didn’t backdown and was giving right back.   Glorious to see the Muss buss not getting his way.

He lost his mind on the shooting foul when Rice shot from behind the backboard. I could hear him screaming from the other end of the court.

Them starting alongside each other is part of the problem as it makes it harder to maximize the time where they don’t share the court.

If you assume each should play 25-30 minutes a game then they HAVE to share the floor for at least 5-10 minutes a game. But since we start them together, this is basically the baseline so the decision is being made that having the share the floor actually makes us a better team. This seems wrong to pretty much anyone who watches basketball.

I thought we got a good whistle in the first half. Some hand checks were being called on them, but they were not being called on us. But nothing major.

Yes this.  I was thinking if you get them both about 25 minutes a game that we should be good.  Have about 5 minutes where they overlap and then sell each of them on the fact, starting or not, you are our featured big for about half a game.

They made up for it in the second half when they let Claude push off while driving for a couple baskets.

He is bush league.  While IU was shooting FTs at his end he would yell box out as loud as he could right when the shooter was shooting.  He is lucky I didn’t run on the court and tell him to his face “USC lost” and then pose like Crean or the cop

You could hear someone yelling over the TV during FTs. Didn't realize that was him.

25-30 minutes each = 10-20 shared minutes unfortunately.
Wish we would play one like 25, the other 20 so they share the court for 5. Both absolutely have major roles to play but the combination needs to stop.

We aren’t better playing them both 25 minutes per game.  We are better playing Ballo more minutes than Reneau.  Ballo should be playing 30+ minutes and Reneau less than 20 to make this team better.  Ballo is better rebounder and Rim protector and defender and that is why he needs to play more minutes.
