It leads to situations like Penn State’s backup quarterback entering the transfer portal while his team is competing for a national championship. It’s not a good model.

That's because it's based on the premise that they're "student"-athletes. Therefore, transfers need to be done between academic semesters regardless of the sports season.

Nice get for them. I wonder if that takes them out of the equation for Mendoza.

I'm not sure it would.  O'Neill was an okay starter for San Diego State but nothing that screams immediate starter at Wisconsin.

That's generic and offers nothing in the way of a solution. I understand the complaint, but I don't really understand what you want done?

Put more days between Dec 10th to Jan 10th? or tell university presidents to suspend the start of 2nd semester classes? or don't allow them to transfer every other week without repercussions?

What's the solution?

"it's not a good model"--- It's the only model --- what's the point in complaining about it? yeah yeah, it's a message board, etc etc.

If that's the case (which is not only completely believable but what I suspected) then good riddance.

If they think they might get more offers, then don't rush the commitment and signing. Simple.

Edit: Also, school's are now prohibited from contacting athletes after they sign their new not-NLI papers. What is the punishment for that happening? Will anything happen to Beebe's next school for contacting after that? (Doubtful)

Once a student-athlete signs a written offer of athletic aid, other schools are prohibited from communicating with that student-athlete.

My guess is they just contacted the agent, which is an easy loophole.

Yeah, probably. If they're going to have agents though, those agents should be considered an extension of the athlete imo. Contacting them is the same as contacting the athlete.

I’ve never loved the free transfer rule. Reimplementing the old rule would certainly solve a lot of the madness. It + NIL helps level the playing field for a school like IU, but it’s not good for the game.

Agree. I agree, the model isn't good, I truly just don't know what they can do to help it.

Make them contracted employees. But the schools/NCAA don't want to do that.

I don’t think there’s really anything they can do to make it better that they’d actually be willing to do. It feels like the cat’s out of the bag at this point. Honestly with the rapid changes in just the last few years I wouldn’t be surprised if 10-15 years from we look back on this period as the “good ole days.”

Wisconsin is getting some buzz for Billy Edwards from Maryland this morning too, so I think they're definitely out on Mendoza.

Would be odd as Wisconsin just landed a commitment from Danny O'Neil who started as a true freshman at SDSU and has 3 years of eligibility left.

Right. That was part of the discussion.

Hosea Wheeler committed to IUFB

I really hope we land Santana Hopper

So, Wheeler is your Carpenter replacement. Hopper is Kamara's ideally. Then you just have to figure out a CJ West replacement and the DL is in pretty good shape. FWIW, Kyler Garcia has eyes on a freshman All-American bid according to his Twitter lol.

Wheeler, Landino, Burrus, Depaepe x2, 5 FR signed DL, Tucker, Sneed, Monette, Collins, Ndukwe,

Dawson UL transfer rumored, Kamara possible pro draft

You're nearing the total number you want, if you aren't there already, obviously would for sure add a Hopper talent if you could. I wonder how they look at Landino, Depaepe x2, and Ndukwe, though. Development has to occur in some of these guys.

Landino strikes me as a full-on rotation guy going forward. He's got burst and motor, and getting non-garbage time snaps at DE as a freshman is a serious accomplishment.

What if Kamara is just a gamer, isn’t a great tester, and is advised to stay in school and get paid there? A boy can dream!
