You could argue some are more concerned with the optics of how IU is perceived by the national media and other fan bases then they are actual results on the court.   Some would rather lose a close game to a national brand team like Duke then actual win a  close game where IU looks bad against a team like Northwestern.  Been that way for a while for some people.   The reality is doesn’t matter how IU is perceived next year coach DeVries is going to have to win.   He could have gotten the top 12 transfer portal guys this year or he could have gotten 200-212 ranked transfer guys in the portal and his expectation is going to be the same.   Win.  Optics would look better for some with choice 1 however expectations would be no different the door number 2.   Unimpressed or impressed with what he has done doesn’t matter just got to sit back and see if this is the year IU claws its way back to where people want it to be

Sure but the board is a lot more enjoyable when we can all put the snark aside (I’m as guilty as anyone of that from time to time) and just talk ball. It’s tougher to do that in the offseason but plenty of legit basketball stuff to talk about with a new staff and roster and two more spots to fill. We can disagree without calling each other’s thought processes stupid lol, even if I agree it’s a little reactionary at this point to be unimpressed.

Mocking/snark when people are being unreasonable isn’t… unreasonable.

We had people freaking out a couple of weeks ago worried “we wouldn’t fill our roster”. And yes, it was a dumb thought process to have that concern so early into the offseason. People are free to have their concern, it doesn’t mean the concern itself isn’t dumb.

Now that we have our roster being reasonable critical of it is fine too, an example being worries about a lack of rim protection. But even that, while perhaps a weakness, doesn’t spell doom for the team as some would try to have you believe.

I guess I don’t see anyone claiming that the team is doomed, just that they were hoping to make a bigger splash with the resources. Personally I’m not that concerned with those optics but this is an IUBB message board and there’s going to be opinions we don’t always agree with. During the offseason is peak time to be overly analytical / anxious / skeptical. The only point I’m making is you can debate the merits without mocking and people can draw their own conclusion of who is unreasonable or not.

I think we'd all be better here if everyone just worried about themselves.  (that's not critique of your post, it's an add on)

The moment anyone tries to have a convo in any thread.... You get 2, 3, 4 posters whining about a conversation dragging on... like it doesn't' f'ing matter if a convo drags on, it's LITERALLY why we have a spot like this to talk sports. 

 

The bottom line... people actually come here for "news" which is absolutely baffling. Make a twitter acct, search "IUBB" every morning when you wake up.

Fair enough. But just as I’d mock someone acting like we can’t compete in the B1G without rim protection, or that this roster is bad because of preseason rankings, I’d similarly mock someone saying “final 4 or bust” or something similarly absurd.

”reasonable” is looking at this coach and roster, pros/cons and all, and seeing a team that’s much different than what we’ve seen for the last 8 years, that has a lot of proven production on it, and that should get us back into the tournament. If that happens, which personally sitting here today I believe it will, then the season will be a success in my eyes.

I’m also excited to see the team consistently take more than 25 3s a game. Just hopeful that coach can coach them up on the defensive end.

I think my ultimate issue with someone like @WayneFleekHoosier being overly critical is ..... DDV JUST built a Top 25 at WVU without one of his starters. 

Literally, it's a fact... with a fraction of the resources IU had last year.... DDV took "gambles" on Sincere Harris, Hansberry, Powell... made them function well together, convinced Small to come star for them....

I think one of the biggest strengths of this message board is the aggregation of IUBB related info.  It’s a major hub due to the free posting of info and links from elsewhere.  It’s like the Drudge Report of IUBB.  That’s not baffling at all.

It 100% is when others start to crap on posters' discussion because they have to sift through an extra page or two to find "news"... they think there are daily updates and they're "missing out".... they are the ones out of line. Like the post two posts above us.

I can agree there.  It’s also laziness to complain about having to “sift through” things you don’t want to see and asking for someone to summarize.  If you don’t have time to keep up that’s fine, but don’t expect someone to spoon feed you if you can’t be bothered to read the board to catch up.  

This thing is organic, mods do a great job of keeping it from going completely off the rails.  Also a reminder to everyone use the ignore function for those posters whom you don’t want to hear from.  Cut off repeat offenders and it’s pretty nice.

 Someone mentioned yesterday... we might be looking for some younger guys to fill the final spots, I like that route, at least starting out.... not a fan of leaving a scholly open, that burned Woodson one year, and I think the optics are poor.

Nowadays all you need is a Trilly discord account to get the latest news for anything related to college basketball including the IU related news.   If you can wait for it his stuff will make it to the various message boards eventually even the premium boards.

I understand the not leaving a scholarship open... get someone who may develop into a usable piece next year... or someone who can help bang in practice...

For me, the biggest part of the issue is the status of Luke Goode. Clearly, he's a valuable piece if he can get the extra year (and I've seen hints online both ways in that regard). If Goode is able to come back, that's a much better option than using the scholarship for a "filler" guy.

But leaving an open scholarship makes no sense at all.

Just my $0.02 — let the mods make the call.  This is a thread for news, but that news will spark discussions and quashing that those discussions after a few posts doesn’t make sense.  Just scroll past what you don’t want to read and from what I can tell if a discussion gets way off and overwhelms the thread a mod will step in and do something like start a separate thread.
