I have enjoyed these two putting out videos about the portal, and the big ten in particular. One is a Michigan fan who fears Dusty will leave Michigan for IU one day. The other is a MSU fan who is tired of Izzo.

I shared this video because it is about Luke Goode, but the joke near the end about Woody was pretty funny, especially for you dumpers :)

I’ll rephrase the question:

If we don’t play 3 guards consistently, how do you figure Goode gets 15MPG?

The way the roster is cut now, there is no way for me to NOT see us playing 3 guards consistently.

The way the roster is now, even if Goode commits, MM is playing some 4.

Cool, that was one of the points made my str8baller, that the staff would have to make a commitment to do such a thing.

I hope they do, just not optimistic that they do. I expect our starters to be Rice, Carlyle, Mgbako, Reneau, Ballo and the bulk of the minutes for those 5 guys to be at their starting position.

FWIW, Torvik projects Luke Goode for 36% of available minutes if you add him to the Indiana roster. That's 14.4 MPG.

Yep, if we don’t bring in a backup 4/5 guy then it makes sense. But if you do, and that guys is getting 10-15 minutes a game, then the minutes are gone.

If we commit to more 3 guard looks though then yep, Goode at 15 minutes is reasonable. (Which was the point)

FWIW, Torvik seems to generate minutes based on last years minutes.  It projected last season that Payton Sparks would play more than Reneau.

Assuming Luke Goode commits on Thursday or Friday on his visit, Indiana is left with two scholarships. We know Humrichous is out of the equation and we can safely say that the backcourt is full.

Elijah Malone is considering IU, Notre Dame and Colorado and most things that I have read indicate Notre Dame has the closest proximity for him plus the clearest path to consistent playing time and the Fighting Irish are the leader. Who knows if that is accurate but it at least makes sense. If Elijah Malone commits to somewhere besides Indiana...that leaves Anderson from FGCU as the only remaining player on the target board and he seems unlikely once Goode commits.

That will bring up the last hurdle for the coaching staff in terms of roster construction. Ballo is the only true center on the roster and he's has not shown that he can play more than like 28 minutes per game maximum. If we play uptempo with the additions of Rice and Carlyle, that Ballo number probably is more realistically 26 minutes per game to keep him at maximum effectiveness. I really hope the Hoosiers target a player that could give us minutes as a forward or a small-ball center and ideally you'd find a guy that could at least be a threat from three. Obviously, the issue is going to be finding a player comfortable with that kind of role. I'd prefer that to finding a guy that is limited to just center. If that means we go "small" for 10-15 minutes per game, so be it. I think it's nearly inevitable we'll have lineups with guys like Mgbako or Tucker or Goode at "4" with Malik or a guy we have not added yet as the 5. Given our acquired depth at guard, that's a good thing.

Are you calling Goode a guard?  Because he’s really not — doubt you see any kind of real time with only he and one other guard on the court.  Goode is s SF.

It looks like the staff expects a lot of the "backup" 5 minutes to be taken by Reneau. Ballo played about 26 mpg on Arizona, a team with top 15 tempo, I would expect at least that many minutes on a middle of the pack tempo team like IU. I think whoever they bring in won't be playing much come B1G season, we just need another body as injury/foul insurance. There are plenty in the portal I'm confident they can find one.

Think you'll see extended stretches with Ballo/Reneau as the only big and Goode/Mgbako as the 3/4. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing either. I still expect the staff to land an emergency 5 in case Ballo or Reneau go down, but the way things are shaking out, Ballo and Reneau will likely start together and then see their minutes staggered.

Cool, he’s listed as a guard but for the sake of playing time, as long as the staff is ok playing him alongside 2 guards, it’s all the same to me.
