Adam Olsen from South Alabama with some interest?? Any word on this kid besides being a 6’8 F averaging 16.7 PPG and 4 REB as a junior?

Only games they played against a tournament team this year were Troy. He played awful in one and okay in the other.

Need bench pieces, of course, but the early few names being tossed around as leading targets feel like a repeat of loading up on UNF and low major rosters all over again. Hope it’s just the flow of the cycle and we actually have 7 guys who belong on a competitive high major roster.

EDIT: so many typos!

Whatever the case may be, hopefully he’s being actively recruited over right now… off the bench is fine by me

Would think the Humrichous/Illinois niche shooter role is probably the plan. No universe in which the kid averaging 4 boards in the Sun Belt is your full-time 4.

Hope so, too. Lettice on Twitter is saying done deal, that he cannot do anything but shoot, and don’t expect him to come off the bench. If true, I’m already feeling shaky about next year.

I like ol’ George, fun read and he clearly knows somebody who knows somebody, but he’s wrong about that one. Not a chance he’s your starting 4.

He will be a world beater under Hurley.

Does he really fit the Hurley profile?

Ball: 4 star top 50 recruit; all 3 years at UConn

Demary: 4 star out of HS; high major transfer from UGa

Karaban: 4 star out of HS (offers from Ohio State and ND); all years at UConn

Mullins: we’re all too familiar…

Reed: 4 star top 50 out of HS; high major transfer from Michigan

Stewart: 4 star recruit with offers from Bama and USC

Reibe: 4 star top 40 recruit

Smith: Lowest rated rotation player - 3 star out of HS and played 4 years at Dayton before transferring to UConn.

Hurley is definitely doing it differently from Dusty May or Underwood or Scheyer or even Tommy Lloyd, but he also is generally not going this far down. I think that would apply for people like Orme and Brumbaugh as well.

This place will burn to the ground if our first commit is a mid major PF.  Love it.

I'd recommend waiting for the whole portal class to come together before assuming we learned nothing from last year.  But that's just me.

A 6'7 3 point specialist is good to have if that's all your asking of them to do.

If this guy is our 5th or 6th best transfer, I think its perfectly fine. You need shooters. You just dont want him to be a focal point of the class and roster (Bailey).

100%. If this kid was the 3rd commit we’d heard about after a couple of obvious starters the consensus would have been something like, “A stretch 4 off the bench, nice. Hope he was cheap.” Instead, he’s the 1st name and it’s, “Jesus, DDV has learned nothing.”
Timing is everything.

Saw an article on we may be interested in Rowan brumbaugh? I remember watching him at gtown and thought he was pretty good. Can’t say I’ve watched him too much at Tulane

Made a joke once that Brumbaugh needs to pay me to watch his games because of the few Georgetown/Tulane games of his I’ve watched through the years I’ve never seen him not good.

Uhhhh what am i missing with Olsen. Under 40% fg percentage at South Alabama and only 4 rebounds playing almost the entire game

He shot 39% from 3 and shot over 100 more 3 pt attempts than 2’s. That under 40% is all shots. Not saying his 2 pt % is good (40%) but he is a 3pt jump shooter being looked at to be a stretch 4. FT% is over 83% an 3.9 attempts a game. For reference he averaged 4.4 2pt and 8.3 3pt attempts per game.

I think what you’re missing though is the cost, he won’t be expensive imo. Rabby said a few days ago he thinks IU will look to land 3 impact guys and then fill in with role players. Similar to the NBA model. I’d expect them to be spending big on a PG, 1 wing, and a C. Meaning stretch 4 is money ball. Olsen also doesn’t block the path for Sisley or Manhertz long term at the 4. Or if he plays the 3 it doesn’t block Karvala long term. They are wanting to get to the point of building through high school recruiting, so expect 3 guys in the portal that don’t cost a lot and have limited eligibility. Olsen is currently a junior per ESPN.
