Ah so you personally need to ask journalists to do something for them to do the job.

Was that him doing his job? Wowza

I don't think any college athlete is worth all of this money because the name of the University is what sales and not individual players. To me taking in account that they were getting $50,000 a year through scholarships was plenty of money for them to receive. I just really hate where college sports are today and it is making it harder to even enjoy the spirit any longer. I will accept it because I have watched sports all night of my life and don't have anything else to occupy my free time.

Exactly.
Comparing this to minor league baseball is ridiculous. We just saw a Final Four that drew over 15 million viewers per game.

To watch those teams and not the individuals. The same amount and people would have watched it even without Cooper Flagg

No. HE did NOT bring 4.8 million in revenue to Duke. Again, HE didn't. So no, couldn't have been worth it.

Money isn’t the only consideration, that’s small minded….

He wore Duke across his chest for 5 straight months. He's one of the more visible athletes in the country. That's $4.8 million in marketing and promotion alone.

Not every college athlete is worth what they're being paid in NIL but Cooper is easily an exception.

If the people who made money off Cooper Flagg were actually the ones paying him, I'd probably agree with you guys.

Duke should have given him like ..... a million bucks, CBS 2 million, ESPN ---- probably like 5 million. ACC conference? a million.....

Other teams? probably a combined million.

If we aren't being small-minded, that is....

I'd pay them about what the minor players get paid. Ultimately, that's where I'm going with this.

Cooper Flagg isn't worth 4.8 million to Duke lol .... he's worth that to the NCAA as a whole, to ESPN, sure.... to Duke? Nahhh.

Ballo wasn't worth 1.5 million we gave him. Really he wasn't worth close to that.

Much of that $4.8M came from fans, mostly very rich fans. They're not trying to make money on him, they're trying to win games and possibly a championship.

Is he worth that much to the fans that are paying? Yes, since that is what he got paid.

Was it a good investment? Yes, unless the mindset was championship or bust.

The rest that didn't come from fans was from companies. They got good visibility (I know I saw his lame commercials many times during the NCAAT). Probably worth it to them.

Well yes, it’s a team sport? Flagg’s NIL was largely financed by private entities who have a massive stake in the success of Duke basketball.
Just like Steve Cohen going out and spending 750 million on Juan Soto.
I don’t understand the point you’re making.

You can’t say that the brand is the reason for all the viewers and then crap on them paying talent to bring home a championship to their large fanbase.

Both college basketball players and minor league players are paid athletes.  My comparison between the two sports was strictly about the level of performance and the fact that it’s paid entertainment.

That's my issue. I absolutely agree.

Nope can't agree with that.

It's Duke? of course it was.

I am saying no matter who is wearing those uniforms it will sell because fans have been buying it for years. The individual players aren't why people are buying the product or going to games. I have been a fan of IU for 50 years and players have come and gone but IU is still there.
