Appreciated.  My track record has been really solid and I want it to work more than anyone.  I don't have all the answers either, clearly.  I'm positive when its called for.  We haven't had a ton of that in the program for a long time.  I like to "scout" players and have my own takes.

I think our offense is gonna be fun this year but we need to address defense and athleticism primarily.  It's all got to work together.  I like Reed Bailey and Tucker Devries.  Concerned about both of them on defense.  I've stated my peace on Enright for a while.  Love the kid and the energy, just think he's gonna be outgunned.  I don't care for Comer either too much.  Didn't love Pack.  I've been underwhelmed at the PG targets especially.  I really like Wilkerson.  Like Brozvic.

When the Roster is final we can evaluate it all over again.  I was positive about Bailey, DeVries, Wilkerson, so there's a stigma attached.

Well I think we get Wilkerson and Freeman right.  That’s a low major player and a D2 player.

Enright not a mid major

Sisley not a mid major.

DeVries not a mid major

Bailey is a mid major

I don’t think anyone is saying they all will be.  It’s just a chance we could get some duds.

My wife was holding my arms away from my mouse and keyboard to keep me from doing it.

I realize the “is it time to be worried?” discourse has gotten pretty grumpy and circular here, but I want to add one thing.

A lot of our unmet expectations came from Dolson. Who are his go to reporters? Thamel and Osterman. Thamel talked about how the new IU coach was going to hit the portal hard and fast, relying on overwhelming resources. Osterman kept talking about the house settlement and April 7 as a day when most of the roster might be set—someone told Osterman to explore that possibility.

So I’m going to be like @Chris007 — loyal but not blindly trusting. And I don’t think it’s crazy at all to be concerned that most of the good portal players (especially the centers) are already gone, and I don’t think it’s weird to wonder, if we weren’t actually in a hurry, why we didn’t just wait for McCollum.

If we think that IU should be doing more, better, faster, it’s only because Dolson taught us to think about the program in those terms

I think this is totally fair and a good point. But at the same time, aside from Dix and Conwell, how many guys have we really missed on, that we know of?

Sure, lots of players have already committed, but there's no reason to think DDV was interested in most of them. Many of these guys may simply not have been a good schematic or cultural fit.

Because Dolson wanted DeVries and not McCollum???

Several people on here have posted McCollum was the first choice, in addition to vague tweets like Goodman’s pointing the same direction. Also Drake’s AD made it pretty clear IU wanted McCollum but he said he wouldn’t talk until after the season—another example of Dolson’s actions suggesting speed really mattered.

And now more than a week later McCollum has done more at Iowa than DeVries has at IU.

Or can be as simple as people being inpatient. We already picked up more players than Dusty did by this time last year. Not all the good players are done. That’s just not a true statement. Portal rankings are even worse than high school rankings. Go look at who the top players were in the portal the last couple years. Plenty of stellar players “ranked” low in the portal. People are just anxious to be good and want good news. And it’s an immediate gratification society now. But let’s see what the roster actually looks like in a month and then complain about it. lol.

Go look at the center rankings on 247. It’s bleak. We’re down to mid major backups.

Also comparing last year and this year doesn’t make sense because of the house settlement, which Dolson was very focused on (until his new coach didn’t sign anyone for more than a week).

Your point about portal rankings is fair, but it is somewhat predictive (and we’ve whiffed on several of the highly ranked players we pursued).

I think if our roster was almost full, people would be complaining that we might miss out on some really good players that aren’t in the portal yet.

If our roster was almost full, we'd be pursuing luxuries instead of necessities. The more players we miss on, the more pressure it puts on our staff to land the ones who are still out there.
