I like the idea of him visiting with someone already committed

I really think it's a ploy for him to get more money from us. Again, Trilly and those guys don't just put a commitment prediction out for no reason. Something substantial had to have happened. As I said earlier Mark Pope, Bruce Pearl, and Chris Beard did not all of a sudden wake up on April 8th and decide to go after Wilkerson. Why I don't believe Rabby's "they've now just jumped in line".  They've been on him I'm sure for a while. Of all the guys Indiana has been on so far, I think Wilkerson is the top of the list for me.

For sure in our situation with no real team in place we need the guys on the roster to be as engaged as possible right now so it’s great that the visit timing works out. In general with all the portal turnover every year player connections are going to be more impactful than ever.

We disagree on this point. BTW, I thoroughly enjoy the debate with you.
Walter Clayton Jr? Zero star recruit
Thomas Haugh? #192 composite recruit
Will Richard? #330 composite recruit
Alijah Martin? Zero star
Alex Condon? Zero star
Ain’t no Cooper Flaggs on the national champs.
Fit matters. Matters a ton. Player evaluation matters a ton too. Having a staff that is truly great at both things makes it all possible.
And I now have an idea of what CDD wants from a player. Good news.. Devries actually told a conference call of 30-50 former IU players that we will be doing loose ball drills! That’s when we roll a ball on the floor in front of two players and they fight, scratch, and wrestle as long as it takes until one of them comes up with it.
So Woody wanted 5 star Mack Mgbako and a bunch of guards that were as soft as baby poo (except Leal) and CDD wants Conor Enright and maybe Comer. Guess which ones are gonna contribute more to winning? Enright is gonna be f-ing great. And there’s something about Comer that makes me think he will do anything to win. I don’t give a rat’s @$$ if either has been offensively inefficient at prior stops; CDD thinks they are plenty talented enough and are going to fight in a panicked/obsessive/focused way like someone is gonna punch their momma if they lose.
So while I want bigs that can shoot, I also sure as hell want a team that makes us proud by how hard they play… THAT’S what is most important.

Walter Clayton had a great year at Iona with Pitino? Alijah Martin was a stud at FAU for 3 years, he was a no brainer. Haugh was a great pull. I want tough players too. I’m glad DeVries is going to try to cultivate that. Being tough will win you games. I can wrap my head around Enright, kind of. Although if we play 3 games and he looks out of place against bigger stronger, more athletic guards I won’t be shocked in the least. I’m not sure what Comer does well. Stepping WAY up in competition and expecting better results just doesn’t add up. For as much blind faith as we are giving DeVries, he hasn’t done anything yet. He’s gonna be learning on the fly as well.

Heck, I wanted Dusty to be our coach and bring Martin with him before that was a popular move. Martin was so easily projectable.

Was he easily projectable when Dusty May picked him up at FAU?

Are you comparing a high school recruit vs a guy with 3 years of college evidence of performance? He was projectable the minute he played significant minutes at FAU. Dusty saw the same thing from him in high school. Comer has 3 years of inefficient basketball play at a low level of college hoops. At some point the evidence reveals itself.

The NCAA has given players who played in JUCO ball an extra fifth year this year while legisltation is going through.  Lamar Wilkerson actually was at a JUCO for two years (one he was hurt, so redshirt) and then played three years at Sam Houston State....without the extra JUCO year granted, his eligibility would be up since he's had four years.

I was asking about Brzovic since he was at a Division II school for a year, so why would he get a 5th without the graduate transfer part.  I know that JuCo years don't count, but I didn't think that Div II would get the same treatment.

And Tonje… was he a superstar at Colorado state? No. But he was solid and efficient with great shooting splits against a higher level of competition. He jumped up as he grew in confidence and became the alpha mostly due to usage rate, but the numbers were projectable.

Sometimes you like fits and I can’t wrap my head around it. Local kid. That’s good, i guess. He’s an undersized guard. Albeit, athletic. But just terrible shooting splits for 3 seasons against low level competition. Decent overall stats this season at Evansville until you look at the advanced stats. I don’t see it translating at all. So if this is our move that would mean Enright is our starter and Comer is our backup PG. That’s about as weak at the PG position as you’ll find in the big ten.

I think his quickness translates. He’s a downhill player and if you can get him to buy into DDV’s system and surround him with shooters you might have something.

I watched him at Cathedral for the better part of 4 years and he was the best on the court most nights playing alongside a bunch of D1 talent.

Well, right now we are in on Wilkerson, Freeman, Brzovic, Comer, and Rice.  That is 5!  Everyone else has committed elsewhere or with us.

Who's Rice? Sorry if I missed this one.

That quickness wasn’t enough for him to dominate at Evansville or Eastern Kentucky. He’s little. If his quickness can’t dominate at a lower level it isn’t going to dominate in the B1G. Plus he’s another guard that’s not a great shooter. Everyone has their own opinions and that’s fine. Expecting him be a + guard in the B1G when he hasn’t been that anywhere else Is fools gold.
