Archie Miller's 3rd season ended in March 2020, when covid was just getting started. That's a pretty big reason he got a 4th.

Nobody was getting let go in March of 2020. Concerns about athletics were understandably put on the backburner.

All indications were that we were pretty solidly in the tournament after beating Nebraska the first night of the BTT, so he wouldn't have been fired anyway.

He was fired the very next season.

Unless you are Wake.  I’m pretty sure they fired Manning after the season was cancelled

I would also hope that Scott Dolson believes that we have underperformed and that he would entice coach Woodson to retire sooner rather than later.

One would hope, but then again it's Dolson we're talking about. He just gave Woodson a raise after last year.

I think someone may have mentioned this earlier in this thread, but after rewatching the game, it was fun to see how active coach Walsh and Calbert were during the game.  My guess it that it was coach Walsh's scout. Calbert seemed to be engaging the players and even an official.  It would be nice to see Calbert as an assistant coach next year if coach Hunter receives a head coaching job.

Just so I have this correct you're saying that Archie was going to make the tournament and still be fired in his 3rd season if there was no covid? If so I disagree about that. But as I'm learning most people on here know more about this stuff than I do.

If you're looking to make a case about an "ism" I really think you'd have a stronger one to make about ageism than racism.

You are correct. Didn't know that.

He was fired in 2020 after winning 41% of his games the previous 6 years, and only one winning season.

FWIW, Mike Davis is master of the six year fire.  Was at IU for six years and then fired.  Moved on to UAB, coached six years and was fired.  Next up, Texas Southern....six years and then fired.  He's now at Detroit Mercy and is in his sixth season....and his team is 0-23,  so no doubt he is fired at the end of the year.

That is impressive consistency.

Mike left Texas Southern to take the Detroit Mercy job.  Your point that that he was at each school 6 years is still valid.

This is most frustrating for me. I know rabby has reported that his methods in recruiting are changing due to lack of results in long, drawn out recruitments. But it might be too late.
It has to change for the '25 class.
In the last two summers he landed one recruit. It probably is too late cause he likely only has one year left to not only make the tourney but win a couple of games in it.

I've always gotten the feeling that Calbert is more of a homebody and not overly interested in all the travel an assistant coach has to do on the road recruiting.  That's not in any way meant as a knock against Calbert but it takes a certain personality to want to be living on the road that much and Calbert's personality appears to be more reserved and laid back.

I can 100% testify that this is correct. He doesn't want to have any part in recruiting. He enjoys working with the players one-on-one or in small groups but not going to AAU tournaments. Plus his kids are older, his wife still lives most of the time back in Atlanta. He still keeps his residence in Indy. But he loves being back in Bloomington and for my family's sake, I hope he is here for many more years.

No disrespect to coach Hunter but I have seen nothing from him that tells me he would be a good head coach. Now of course in order to see that, Woody would have to listen to his assistants and not the old man advisor club he created.
