I was always going to question the Woodson hire but I could also see some of the benefits and generally I am a hope it works out type of guy.  I thought he presented some strengths through his NBA connections and was curious to see how that would parlay to Indiana.

Anyway, my “give up” moment was listening to Woodson compared to Painter on the Rothstein podcast.   Woody was very nonchalant and lacked enthusiasm and specifics.  Has a slow draw, etc. Painter on the contrary was very detail oriented.  Very quick to answer the questions.  Added foresight and consideration to how all things fit together etc.   Anyway, that was really the day that I doubted Woodson was ever going to be more than the sum of its parts.

This year, with a “hand picked” roster was the perfect testing grounds.  But it always looks more or less the same.  No matter who is where.

But we got a young team, according to Woodson

Revenue, revenue, revenue

The tens of people that attend swimming meets dwarf in comparison to volleyball attendance.

The athletes outnumber the fans nearly 2 to 1

Volleyball is a rising sport that actually is getting TV time.image.thumb.png.5a802b0f5866278491070b15c7a9892c.png

Oh you mean kind of like why WNBA players are paid morsels compared to the NBA counterparts.

not pointing this at you but the answer is always revenue like you said.

What if struggling Gophers men’s basketball hadn’t lost key players because of NIL?

Minnesota, 0-5 in the Big Ten, goes into Monday’s game at Maryland still trying to replace those gone because of better “name, image and likeness” opportunities elsewhere.

They kept Garcia for half of what he could of gotten at other programs it says. I can't imagine anyone staying to play for Woodson for less money. He overpays just to get bodies

We’re losing focus peeps. It’s the Fire Wilson thread….. maybe we can talk about our pups but that’s it.

Sorry, it was my fault wondering about what may have been.

Moving on... Fire Woodson.

It’s on the entire team but in the end, the head coach is ultimately responsible

I'm aware of that. I'm just wondering if some of the assistants are significantly worse at their jobs than the others. I personally hope the assistant coaches and strength and conditioning coach follows Woodson out the door. It's funny how any question like the one I posted gets construed as some sort of defense of the Woodson.

Yea, I’m pretty sure our FB NIL was a little over $4M last year, which is probably around 30-40th in the country it’s hard to know.  And as we know BB is around $6M and top-5.  Woody wasted it all.  I wish Cig could have got a few million more last year instead.

On the bright side, 75% of the revenue share will go to FB, and FB NIL keeps climbing.  More money is heading to Cig where it will be used wisely to produce results.

If the same thing persist, then yes be pissed. But I feel like CIG is going to get a lot more NIL this year. I just hope he doesn’t screw the pooch.  Got a huge contract after a great year. I’m hoping that it doesn’t turn into a Tom Allen situation. I know Cig got a lot more history than Tom does. But we opened up the checkbook for Tom after one good season. Look what that did for us.

We could have not opened the checkbook and Cig probably goes somewhere else, the AP Coach of the Year is in high demand.  He's not a slam dunk, but he is the best we can do by some margin.  We had to take a calculated risk and lock him up.  If we didn't, just shutdown our football program and we'll move to a smaller conference.

Cig ain't Tom.  He's wired different than most.  At 63, he's still up before dawn and heads home after dark grinding it out.  He's is the definition of the will to prepare to win.

Just because Woodson is lazy doesn't mean all guys his age are
I bet pearl busts his behind day in and out like cig does.

Minnesota should be able to keep players after this year due to the revenue sharing in the Big Ten. All teams will have 20 million to spend on basketball and football.

Is that all from the B1G media profit share?

Any idea what the SEC or Big 12 or other conferences will have or is the BT the first out of the gate with this?

I have not heard what other conferences are doing if anything yet

Was just thinking the same.  20 Mil seams low based on the revenue it generates.

It's up to about $22M for all schools, increasing by a few percent each year.  This is a result of the class action lawsuit that is close to final, but not yet final.  Check out House vs. NCAA.

It will be up to the schools where the $22M goes -- FB, BB, etc.  In general, it's expected 75% or so will go to FB for most schools, since FB generates most of the revenue.

Keep in mind the $22M rev share is separate from NIL.  Schools like Minny will get a boost from the rev share, but other schools can still outbid them with NIL on top of the rev share.

Did Dane Fife commit the dumbest foul in Indiana's history?

Yes but luckily he got bailed out when Williams missed the free throw
