Do you think Bill Orwig hired Knight all by himself? Or that Fred Glass fired Tom Crean? Or that Scott hired Cig all by himself? IU and every other school has stakeholders. It’s how universities work.

What stakes are they holding?  Winning doesn't seem to be one of them.

Wrong.  There are well run athletic departments, and ones that aren't.

Universities with well run athletic departments give their AD responsibility to manage the teams, they set expectations in terms of results, and then hold the AD accountable.  Management 101, it applies to any organization, including ones within universities.

Poorly run athletic departments have outsiders or "stakeholders" exerting influence.  When this happens it's no longer clear who is responsible for the results or who should be held accountable (and some higher up "stakeholders" can't be held accountable, like Quinn).  The outsiders are rarely better than the AD at making personnel decisions, and they often have huge conflicts ("He may be the best human being I know" lol).  This is a nightmare situation for any organization and creates terrible results.

Also, there is no way you're a trustee or whatever you claim to be.

One thing to remember about the stakeholders is they aren’t always employed by the university. I’m not sure I believe Scott Dolson is “unaware” or remaining “neutral” in hopes things resolve. That being said, he is very, very, very savvy in the personal/relationship business. The current system (unsure if it’s unique to IU or not) demands you get the deep pockets behind any changes you want BEFORE you make a change. Dolson does not have the overwhelming trust of the stakeholders either deep pockets to make unilateral decisions.

I’m 99% positive Scott Dolson *could* fire Woodson tomorrow without cause. But what’s the cost? Does he then lose the ability to write checks out of booster’s pockets? The political capital it takes to be successful in this type of setting is a skill unto itself.  Love him or hate him, Brian Evans for example lacks that skill. And that’s okay, but it feels like we have a coach with a little political capital and a little basketball skill and not enough coaching acumen. Unfortunately that “political capital” he wields keeps him in power for a bit.

If we don't play better Sam Houston State is going to be a problem. Maybe Winthrop too.

We wanted higher quality cupcakes? That's what we have.

Better hope one of them doesn't catch fire on open threes.

They will, I’m highly confident in that and there is nothing we do currently to defend that.  Our perimeter D has sucked for 3+ years.

I'm taking my son and his friend to his first game at Assembly Hall against the mighty Moccasins on the 21st.  We are driving in from St Louis.  My question is should I buy nose bleed tickets and move down or will the Hall be pack?

If what KathywithaC says is in fact true, we are doomed....I am back to believing the administration is fine with mediocrity and have no interest in remaining a basketball program that has potential to win championships...participation trophy administration....Good luck when the fanbase stops buying tickets and more importantly IU merch.

We aren’t doomed by the approach, we’re only doomed if we fail to act wisely, something we’ve unfortunately demonstrated a propensity to do in many of our football and basketball hires. Dolson is the first “real” AD we’ve had in a long, long time, so I think he’ll look after this properly. That said, he’s wise enough to do it the “right” way, which isn’t always the fastest.

I'm in favor of a change -- but not at mid-season. Just not sure what that would accomplish. Plus, I'm not sure there's anybody on staff who's capable of running the program in the interim. The popular choice would be Calbert -- but it seems from past posts by people who seem to have a good grasp of the situation that he's not interested in that responsibility.

I recall us playing at Minnesota a couple years back. Woody was out sick and either Yaz or Kenya ran the team -- can't remember which -- and we turned what should have been an easy 15- or 20-point victory into a game we barely won.

Don’t worry, Dolson won’t do a mid-season termination because he doesn’t have a big enough pair!  Like KathywithaC a said in one her post, he will wait. I also find it weird that KathywithaC hasn’t posted for awhile and shows up after we all listened to the Hoosier Hysterics podcast.  I apologize if I am being a little too much of a conspiracy theorist!  Just weird!

hasn't been packed all year and that game definitely will not be. they can be kind of sticklers moving from the balcony to the lower levels but you can probably get away with sitting lower in the balcony.

More likely? We won't do a mid-season replacement because if this season is broken, making Kenya or Calbert interim coach won't 'unbreak' it.

Spot your opening/know where you're going, fill at least one hand with food/drink, and walk in like you know where you're headed (because you do!), tell the boys no gawking until seated. Execute the operation midway into the 1st half. I've never personally been asked for my ticket outside of sitting on the floor.

Exactly! And if it doesn't work once, try a couple of sections over. An 80%+ chance of getting to where you want each time you try.

What about buying at the game from scalpers?  I went to buy on StubHub $38 tickets and there is $21 service fee per ticket.  It's like get the F out of here.

I've done it before, but a few years before everything went digital. I'm not sure how or even if they do it anymore. Check TickPick, fees are built into the price. Total prices on all the re-sale sites end up being pretty close though whether fees are built in or not. SeatGeek usually has a million people pedaling promo codes too.

Also, have you looked on the IU site? Not all those Christmas break games have sold out. There were even some lower bowl seats for the USC games a few days ago.

I just went to the Eastern Illinois game with tix from SeatGeek.

  • Yes - use the 'all fees included' option
  • The lower the ticket price, the lower the fees. Fees are calculated as a percentage of sales price.
  • For EIU, I sat in section A, row 19 for $45 per ticket (all fees included), which was lower than list price.
  • Digital tickets are the absolute best thing ever. Pay up, get an email with a link to the tickets, add the tickets to your Apple wallet, and in the game you go!
