They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Point 5 re: Flory- I was literally outside Memorial Gym in Kokomo during the visit... Woodson was clueless and those observing thought there may be "mental issues" going on.

For people who want to know what has the attention of people like Dolson, you’re getting warmer. There are a couple of other things out there that follow along this same topic that have been brought to Scott’s attention. With all of that, the HH guys are often concerning to people in the AD, and the decision to keep them away from the basketball program was very much supported by the AD. They may try to suggest otherwise, but they would be wrong.

It may not "unbreak" it, but it will certainly send the message that Dolson and Indiana are serious about ending this crap-fest and righting the ship... optics be damned, it's the right thing to do. Period.

Send it to the players? In the era of NIL, do you think that message only gets to them if you fire the coach they came to play for? Do you think it will make them play better? Be more dedicated? Have more loyalty? Or will this just be something that makes some fans feel better because we’re doing “something”? Remember, we had a football coach win three conference games in three years and we still waited until the season ended to fire him.

I didn't think that was much of a revelation. Woody was hired in large part because he knew people? That was part of the calculation from the start and didn't prevent him from succeeding.

But that was the concerning issue they all stated was their biggest concerns, especially Evans!  It was the fact that Nepotism got him hired and he’s used it to help others get profit!  It’s the fact that it’s the biggest issue and the biggest hurdle to get rid of him!

The Hoosier Hysterics are dishing in a major major way from the vantage point of the access they used to have. Like them or hate them, I don't think the hate has been based on them being liars. And they are firing away with all cannons. Brian Evans is teeing it up for them to pile on.

Some highlights (lowlights?) re what they say about Woody?

  • Woody had nothing against Matta personally, but shut him out of staff meetings
  • Woody has banned players and staff from talking to the Hoosier Hysterics, but players and staff talk to them anyway
  • Woody has a complete dis-interest in recruiting. Nickname among high school and AAU coaches? "Bigfoot" - known but never seen.
  • Woody and Ya had an actual, legit fistfight during which Woody called Ya a 'beeyotch' as they were separated during a staff meeting.
  • Woody had to ask Mark Adams what Flory/Kory Bidunga's name was during the one and only meeting Woody had with Adams about Bidunga.
  • When Woody goes to football games he sits in a sky box, never with basketball recruits.
  • Woody had a boys club cigar and wine outing when he also had a portal recruit dinner scheduled - Woody told the attendees he would have to leave at 7:00. When it was 7:00 they were having tons of fun. Woody told all that the recruit didn't make it to town and they ordered pizza. The Hysterics soon thereafter found out that the recruit was in town all along and ate dinner without Woody attending.

Whoooooo boy.

the last few pages are the first I have heard about a fist fight.  And the dude is still there?  Probably because old man woody can take his weak arse.  Can only wonder what Fife and Howard really did to get fired.  LOL.

They are only loyal to the money!  If they were loyal to their coach, they would play harder and lay it in the line every single game.  It’s the money that drives them and now that they have it, they will just go through the motions, see Battle for Atlantis outcome

Just wait for the "optics" of a hostile Assembly Hall against of former star player.

I enjoy ready kathys with a C posts but believing she is connected is a huge stretch for me lol. It is indeed to early to move on at this point in the season. We are realists and can tell how far from being competitive we really are. Hopefully the administration can see as well. They would have to be blind not to

I do question how much many of them actually like/are loyal to Woody.

"Question" as in seriously doubt it.

I think Trey realizes he's traded basketball success for a check by virtue of playing for Woody.

To the basketball world and the fans...

Just because "we always have" doesn't mean that it's the right way or that we should continue. Remember the definition of insanity.

Do you really think the kids in the NIL/portal era come to play for a petty and mediocre coach? It's all about the Benjamins...

My canary in the coal mine moment for this year was at B1G media day, when Myles Rice naively stated that Woody treats him like a grandson; he considers Woody like a  grandfather. He said it three times, saw the reaction, and started talking into his shoes, while Gallo gave him this look:

Kinda the definition of "funny/not funny."

Thank you for the summary. One more point that was made - Parker Stewart being yelled at by Woody that he had "never been coached before" (knowing that he was coached by his recently deceased father). It upset Stewart so much that he left practice and drove home to Tennessee. The assistants had to scramble to get him back to school and salvage the season with him. Horrible.

Holly crap.  I can see a coach saying that and then immediately regretting it.  A true coach then takes the kid aside and has one of those "if I am not yelling at you, I don't care about you" conversations.

Everybody says stuff that clearly came out wrong in retrospect. If Woody was only thinking about Stewart's fundamentals on the court and later realized why it was different for that young man? Agreed; it would have been unfortunate but an honest mistake.

Yep. Woodson is thin-skinned when it comes to him being "offended", but he plows over anyone who stands in the way between his cigars, wine, golf and rubbing elbows with the Cooks and Simons... all show and no go - at least for the past 3+ seasons...

Not sure he regretted anything... he has to elevate himself by tearing down those who dare to challenge him, starting with Fife and Howard... from the sound of things, Matta was here to help, but when Woodson completely ignored him, Matta just went through the motions until he could get out of here... Woodson suspected that Matta was a spy for Dolson... how freaking paranoid?

Whoooooo boy.

The fight with coach Ya was the result of Woody not knowing the opponent that we were playing in the BTT.

Shockingly that but of info could be worse. Lol
