Multiple problems with this.

Do we trust the staff to identify the right pieces?
Do we trust the staff to put the pieces of the puzzle together correctly?
Do we then after all that trust the system on the court to get the results we need?

For me,as of this year, my answer is no to all 3 questions.

Lol. My first answer to this thread. In regard to NIL, buying players.

Nailed it. Although I did later get caught up in the hype and general off season hype machine.

Not talking about now. Sampson’s guys were doing a lot worse than what has happened recently. He brought in a bunch of guys with really sketchy backgrounds. There was a huge chasm between DJ , Gordon and the other guys

Sorry, I jumped in on the middle of your discussion.  I thought you were talking about this current culture or lack there of. Yes some of Sampson’s players were sketchy but his team was athletic and played hard.

Fair question.

Recruiting/portal windows?

Are there still academic requirements?

Agree. There will always be some rules that have to be adhered to.

But, I'm not so sure that I agree about academic rules. I mean, UNC ran fake classes for 18 years and didn't get sanctioned. That still blows my mind...

I think part of it is figuring out who the interim coach will be. I’m sure there are a few coaches who want it. It could lead to big money at their next job if they get us playing well. Then does Jordy Or Calbert move up. How do we make it a smooth transition. Things like that.

Just do it by Height.

Lots of red flags with him -- his disastrous tenure at Georgia being one.

Kind of a shame that he couldn't get those things fixed earlier, because despite all his quirks, he seems like a decent enough dude. And despite his somewhat acrominous split with us -- it seems pretty obvious that he still loves the place.

That's the thing that stands out.  The IU brand still attracted some Dudes.  Unlike GA.  Don't need the Lord Jesus himself.  Just a competent coach who can get it done.

Don’t understand why folks would want a guy like Sampson or Wade.

I get that what they did “then” is legal now.

But if a guy was willing to break the rules that were in place at the time, wonder if he’d break the rules that exist now?

What rules are those?  :)

What? Getting rid of Crean was not a mistake. He was 7th, 8th, 1st and 10th in the B1G in his last 4 years. And the B1G wasn't exactly worldbeaters during that period.

Also, Crean couldn't get past the Sweet 16 with 2 of the top 5 players chosen in the NBA draft. How much talent did he require to make an elite 8 or final 4? LOL

The answer is Dwayne Wade.

Understood.  But look where we are now.  You always want to have a better option before firing a coach if they have some success.  Not fire him, and then figure it out.

I see a lot of who would want this job thoughts….i understand the pressure aspect, but if a guy is confident in his abilities…who wouldn’t want this job? You have a huge NIL amount to work with, still a storied brand, and if you return the team to relevance you become loved…more than loved reallly, the adoration for a winning coach here would be unreal. Just ask the late Bob Knight, even in his wrongs fans looked past it to lift him up on the pedestal he was on because the man was a legend for winning

Man I missed a lot today lol.

Rip the effing band aid off. Do it now. Get this guy up outta there and actually give these guys a chance the rest of the way.

The longer this dead man walking gets to coach this team the worse it is going to get. The boos will get louder, the losses will keep mounting. His arrogant remarks and the way he carries himself are just making things worse.

Let one these assistants take over the rest of the way and run a real offense and give them a chance to compete.

So let’s assume Woody is still the coach when Dusty comes rolling into BTown (big assumption). Also assuming IU season is still off the rails (small assumption). So my question is if the boo birds are out and chants of “Fire Woody” or “We want Dusty”. Does this turn off Dusty from considering IU if the offer is made?

Cant imagine it would help lol, but I’m guessing he’s level headed enough to know college kids are gonna chant stupid stuff. Now if he was known to be close to Woody I would worry about it, otherwise it’s just tacky.

The powers that be cannot be oblivious to this fact either. They made this bed last year, and now are reaping the results. They know Michigan will be particularly ugly if we lay a patented MW egg.
