I see what you mean about Pope being far from a sure thing but at the same time, I think "sure things" are relatively few and far between when it comes to coaching searches. Theres only a handful of guys who have won titles in D1 ... you're not generally gonna be able to get those guys barring extraordinary circumstances. In terms of proven commodities - I'd definitely prefer to see some first place conference finishes/deep runs in March, but I think any search has to start with consistent winning and you can fill in the unique blanks to each search from there. Pope fit the bill for UK and seems to be paying off, though it's early. His ceiling may not be known yet as a coach but I think people can be reasonably confident he will win consistently at UK. On some level, that's sort of all you can ask for IMO.

To be honest, he’s kinda goofy acting!  How will that sit long term with recruiting?  Time will tell.

He was hired by Archie... his extensive background is working with NFL athletes... not sure if/how that translates for basketball players.

Cliff seems like a nice guy but at some point one has to wonder what is going on with the weight lifting program. His background is in football. Is he using the same workout techniques and training that he did when he worked for the Bengals? As we know, basketball is much different than football. Since he’s taken over, we’ve not had 1 single good shooting team and this is his 8th year at the helm. I mean, some of these shots are just pure bricks…some of our shooters we recruited in high school were regarded as sharp shooters, see Damezi Anderson and Gabe Cupps, but they’re not good shooters in college. I think of Luke Goode this year…he was almost a career 40% 3 point shooter at Illinois. He transfers over here and all of a sudden he can’t hit the broad side of a barn as seen yesterday. Now I’m not accusing Marshall of being the sole reason of 8 years of poor bad shooting, but one has to wonder if there is some sort of correlation to his weight lifting program and our shooting…and it’s a fair thought to think. 8 years…of god awful shooting — with two different staffs — all with Cliff leading our workouts is beginning to look suspect. I remember 4 years ago this exact thing was mentioned about Marshall and I thought it was ridiculous. Well, 4 years later and a different coaching staff, it’s seemingly becoming plausible.

It's a bit beyond plausible. This has been a hotly debated topic on here with some getting angry at the mere notion of it being connected.
Is cliff the same trainer who was getting all jacked up with the team during games on the sideline or was that the previous trainer? Only asking cause I haven't noticed that so much under woodson

Yes, it was a rumor about Ballo but I stated like that because I didn’t have actual proof and I’ve been called out for posting what I hear, even if it came from this board by several others.

I have no issue with these guys being college kids.  However, during the season discretion is in order.  A few cold ones after the game, no problem.  The night before is better spent eating well and getting some sleep.  There are plenty of nights to party hard in the offseason.

I know we don't like Dakich but he said when he payed they were not to go out to bars during the season. He said they didn't go to bars but just went to house parties where they wouldn't be seen out in the public. He also said they wouldn't do it during the week or before games but usually after a Saturday afternoon game. All these guys need to realize they can't just go out and expect not to be seen.

If you are talking about Marshall he worked with the Bengals before Archie hired him at Dayton.   He came over with Archie and Woody kept him after Archie was fired.   When Woody in my opinion you clean the whole house.  No fault of any of them just most have been a part of a losing culture so if you are starting fresh you start with a clean slate

I 100% agree!

It is absolutely connected.  Football mucsles and basketball muscsels are completely different.  How many other teams do you see sending pics/video of their workouts/bodies?

Can attest to the late 1980s.  Rarely saw anyone from the team out during the season.  Before and after, well what happens in Bloomington, stays in Bloomington.  :)

It’s almost over. Happy 2025

Like 18 more conference games almost? Or mop the stick Franzia wine spills  and Frebreze the cigar stank out of the storage pod for a real January 20th College football championship party almost over?

The pro-Woody crowd gets upset with the fans, but unfortunately for them CBB media, analysts, journalists, and content creators say the same stuff.  Everyone is observing the same bad program.

That’s what I took from this!  We are the laughing stock of the CBB world
