It certainly did not scare Pope away from UK, and the grief that Calipari took was many measures higher than anything Woody has gone through.

Hell, it didn't scare away Langdon Hatton. When asked after last night's game what it's been like to sit and watch so much, he answered that the only reaction he's had is that it's a dream come true to get to play at IU.

I may be wrong but I don’t think Pope was one of the top candidates when the UK job opened up.  I know his name was on some lists we had for IU candidates but was down the list, if on it at all. He had success at BYU but was far from a sure thing.

I see what you mean about Pope being far from a sure thing but at the same time, I think "sure things" are relatively few and far between when it comes to coaching searches. Theres only a handful of guys who have won titles in D1 ... you're not generally gonna be able to get those guys barring extraordinary circumstances. In terms of proven commodities - I'd definitely prefer to see some first place conference finishes/deep runs in March, but I think any search has to start with consistent winning and you can fill in the unique blanks to each search from there. Pope fit the bill for UK and seems to be paying off, though it's early. His ceiling may not be known yet as a coach but I think people can be reasonably confident he will win consistently at UK. On some level, that's sort of all you can ask for IMO.

Clown show…
Saw a good one on Twitter:
IUBB this year - quality wins: 0. Funny pictures of players going out the night before a game: 2
I don't think suspending a kid and not saying why is much punishment imo

As my kid said -- gotta watch those stairs at the Upstairs Pub.  Their pretty steep.  :)

But, yeah, let's blame twitter.  So typical of these guys.

They just cannot take responsibility for their actions on and off the court.  Our $1M NIL 7ft center brazenly went out to a popular bar on a Saturday night -- this is ridiculous behavior.

I hope whoever the next coach is cleans house, including whoever Tyme knows in the program.

It's Woodson's clown show. That's all you need to know.

Agree.  He hasn't won big yet, but he is recruiting very well and appears to be a good coach that plays modern basketball.  That's the formula for success, this isn't rocket surgery.  Bonus points in that he cares and appears to be a straight shooter.  It stinks, but I think they got this hire right and he is going to do very well there.  Ugh.

If we’re putting out coaching lists. I fully admit the top 5 have a 1% chance of happening but I’d still offer them top 5 salary and make them turn us down first.

1. Brad

2. Dusty

3. Pearl

4. Scott drew

5. Shaka( built something great at Marquette and is from Wisconsin but maybe he wants to try his hand at a blue blood)

6 Chris Jans (winner everywhere he’s been and Mississippi St looks amazing this year)

7. Wes miller (probably would leave us for UNC if we ever get good)

8. Mccollum (not sold on his offense but he’s a winner and hopefully smart enough to adapt)

9. Hoiberg (good coach but may not have the personality for the job)

10. The Bucky McMillan, schertz of the world. I thought this tier of candidate was better last year but new names will pop up as the season goes. Unsure why shrews gets brought up since he’s had one good season his entire time coaching and even that wasn’t great. Intrigued by mark byington at vandy depending on how sec play goes.

I have no issue with these guys being college kids.  However, during the season discretion is in order.  A few cold ones after the game, no problem.  The night before is better spent eating well and getting some sleep.  There are plenty of nights to party hard in the offseason.

There is zero discipline in this program and the players know it. They know they can walk all over woodson

Of course he was and he will next game. Woodson is a pushover, and his million dollar players know it.

Frankly, it shouldn't take Woodson or any coach.  It's called pride in your performance.

I remember the old days when the Little 500 guys would abstain all semester -- that is until Saturday after the race.  And they where just doing it for fun.   :)
