Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Lol he brought in 3 Pros (Bryant, Morgan, and OG) 2 years before he was canned. Get real.

I think the point of my post was lost in translation.

And IIRC had been named B1G COY 2 years back.
The anti-Crean stuff is over the top. Yes, he couldn’t develop teams consistently, he lost many HS coaches, his manerisms were comical, but he won us B1G titles, multiple SW16’s, had been named a B1G COY, brought us many beloved players, several of whom remain in the discussion of some of our best ever. These above continued belittling busts on Crean are pointless now, and completely ignore his accomplishments

Would love you to define "no one". Just fans or administration, too? How far does the unhappiness go up the ladder?

I haven't heard of one person who is happy all the way to the top. But I also haven't heard of one person saying we're going to make a change.

To be fair, the absence of information in early February is not especially telling toward any conclusion.

Yes I should have clarified that I don't expect to be hearing anything either. If anything happens I wouldn't expect much to leak, maybe a day or half-day before it does. I heard about Allen during the Purdue game.

In your opinion, is there any chance this happens after this year? Have you heard anything? I need to know whether to have hope or not.

Probably no way.  This is IU.  If that happened Dusty would bring most of his current top 25 team to Bloomington next year and we'd win right away.  Wouldn't be fair to FAU.  Better to suck next season, then fire Woody, bring in Dusty, and start a multi-year rebuild process.  Why would we want to skip the rebuild and go straight to winning?

Maybe this should be required listening. Goodman lays out that IU went after big names last time and all we could get is Mike Woodson. All these guys everyone wants are not interested in coming here. You better start figuring out who you like more May, Shrews, or ISU guy. Those are the types of candidates we are going to get.

I'll listen later.  I find it hard to believe a Drew, Pearl, or Marshall would turn us down assuming we offered a decent pay raise.  Who knows though.

Dusty May would be a very underwhelming hire.

You've been consistent with this, but I just do not get it.

What qualities are you prioritizing to comprise an "excellent" hire?

I simply don’t believe it for a second. And if it is true, it was entirely self-inflicted by IU. If they were only offering the $3.2 million that they offered Woodson, or something close to it? Sure, then I believe Woodson was the best IU could get. Why come to IU when you can make similar money elsewhere?

But that goes to the problem of IU not being serious about winning. Offer north of $6 million and you’ll see your applicant pool look a bit different.

Pearl already makes about 2.1 million more than Woodson. Drew makes about 500K more than Woodson. So I'm sure Baylor could match whatever we offer.

Marshall?

MARSHALL?!!?

He is 60, hasn't coached in three years, and was terminated from his last job after WSU had to pay a $7.75 million civil settlement to players that he abused.

We have a better chance of hiring Cliff Marshall, Marshall Mathers, or Penny Marshall as our next coach.

Marshall Strickland.

What isn't there to get? IU simply cannot afford to hire somebody who "might" work out. Dusty May is a complete roll of the dice. Our last two hires have been complete roll of the dices and have ended about how you'd expect.

Like you said they may have tried to made low money offers.

And why did he have to
  • Take a mid-major with a 2,800 seat arena to the Final Four.
  • Retain his top eight players, even with zero NIL budget.
  • Learn from Bobby Knight and Mike White
  • Keep that team in the top 25 all of this year while migrating to a tougher conference.
  • Be young and have a 20 year career ahead of him at a P5 school
  • Have an extremely low buyout, and have a current contract that could easily be exceeded
  • Be the number one most coveted up and coming coach nationally
  • Covet IUBB as his dream job
Alot of people are gun shy cause archie was an " up and comer" and he turned out to be a bust.
