You might be right but I was told our total NIL this season for all sports was about 20 million. Now almost all of that was taken by FB and BB  with a little bit spread around to some other sports.

I did hear from one woman's coach who asked for more NIL and was told no. Was told they could give her more scholarship money but no more NIL. Moving forward that NIL money would be going for BB,FB, WBB, VB and soccer. With a sprinkling for Baseball and soccer

Hmm.  Interesting.  I just don't see it.  We're around $6M for BB and that would mean $12M+ for FB.  Big FB programs spend $12M on their rosters, I can't think of enough players on our team that could add up to $12M.  I heard a little over $4M for FB this past year.

Anyways, I could be wrong.  Thanks for the info, this is what message boards are for.

I'd love to know our NIL level for FB next year.

Yeah, but who knows if he was perusing coaching anymore.  If there was a major issue, how did he last so long under Izzo?

Who knows, I just had my hopes up that he was the guy back then.

I agree, think the reality is more nuanced. I remember the stories surrounding his termination, but i also remember the rumors of Fife butting heads with Woodson over game planning and recruiting, and look at where we are now. Fife was a long- time asst under Izzo, and a successful one.

That said, the U needs to move on from legacy players as coaches. We badly need a successful winning, up and coming coach with a demonstrated history including recruiting, tournaments, and a modern system/offense.

Probably won't be till after the illinois game tomorrow. If he wins that the fans will start to get excited until the next time woodson shows up so unprepared we lose by 35

If Woodson wins tomorrow it will be back to he figured it out and this team has turned a corner. His fan club is very predictable

I think he's just tired of IU messing around. He's been talked to about the IU job twice, even discussed numbers last year. I think he is happy at Auburn and they are promising his son the job in the future
It bows my mind we actually probably could of had him but instead we decided Woodson needed more nil. The level of incompetency is mind bloeing.

We could have had Calipari, Pitino, Sampson, Stevens, Pearle, May… the list goes on.

all of the above coaches had interest in the Indiana job at one time and would have come here or in sampsons case did, but IU never moved on them or moved on from them.

its crazy to think of what could have been

Fife couldn't win at IPFW?

Not saying he could win at IU.  I just had high hopes.  Just because you can win or not win at a stop doesn't tell the whole story.   If winning is all we looked at then Archie was the man.  But he couldn't win at IU.  I think there are multiple parts of the puzzle that need to fit and right now our administration is a round peg in a square hole along with our coaching staff that is missing an edge piece even before we get started.

Plus, Fife got more experience under Izzo after not succeeding at IPFW.  Nothing wrong with more training to get better so who knows.

It is extremely telling that three years after Woody let Fife go, no college team has picked him up.

From what I understand, he’s in the insurance consulting business and has no interest in coaching at this time

I had no interest in Fife as soon as he was willing to stay at MSU through everything they pulled/allowed. But, he just was never a candidate for anything at IU.

So, if your boss does something you don't agree with your quitting?  No matter if it hurts you or your family.

That's what people say when they haven't been offered any jobs. He is still in town though, his daughter is play varsity as a freshman at Bloomington South

He retired from coaching and is now in the insurance biz.

Assistant coaches at P5 schools make upwards of $350,000/year.

Maybe there are other issues that caused him to prefer insurance work in Bloomington (some things are far more important than money), but that's a lot of salary to pass up if it's available.

Yeah, and if he was smart he put a lot of that away while working for Izzo.  You can then slow down and focus on your family and other things.  Face it, college (and professional) coaching sucks, especially as an assistant.  You're basically hired to get fired and a nomad every few years.  :)

That is exactly why we lose games by such a large margin, we are unprepared.  He thinks he can win games by shear talent alone.  You might be able to get by with that in the NBA but not in college.  I can’t believe he played for one of the best coaches in college basketball to prepare you to pls and this is the crap we get!  It’s just pure laziness

That's not just on the head coach, it's on the assistant coaches as well. I wonder if there is any pattern for which assistant is responsible for the scouting of an opponent and how prepared/unprepared the team tends to be.

Allegedly he was anti-NIL at Indiana.  If that’s his stance today, no school would hire him.   Or he just made their personal decision to move on since he doesn’t want to deal with the NIL-era.

Not swimming? Their monster transfer class this year seems to indicate they got pretty good NIL.
