Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Honestly, it's frustrating to see the Stevens talk...again....Based on all of the "inside" info that was passed here and on other platforms, we embarrassed ourselves with how we tried to land him. He actually laughed at the idea of going back to college basketball in multiple interviews..We had ZERO chance, IMO. He does not want to deal with the BS of college basketball...He has said it himself.

Let's focus on realistic candidates who WANT to be at IU. Based purely on resume, I feel McCollum is about to be snatched up by the next big opening and I would hope we are smart enough to grab him.

If Brad had no interest he wouldn’t have let conversations drag on for weeks.  He would’ve just said no immediately.

I'd like to think that Dolson failed to act because he was effectively neutered by Quinn Buckner and the BoT. Hopefully he was not completely complicit in this dumpster fire.

When nepotism is involved, results rarely matter. This was about Buckner giving the job and tens of millions of dollars to an unqualified friend. Clearly he doesn't care about the program... and it's highly unlike that he learned a &@^% thing... except how to fleece the university that some say he loves. Do the math and follow the money.

Even cathy said scott had other candidates that he wanted to pursue and woodson was basically forced upon him.

There is only one reason you hire a candidate no other school would even think to hire.

Why do people honestly pine and fixate on coaches IU would absolutely not hire??

IU aint hiring Pearl or Beard even if there were actually a chance they’d take the job. No way. After Sampsongate the admin will continue to bend over backwards to avoid any appearance of impropriety and risk and now after failed coach picks that’s only more true. Doesn’t matter if people don’t like it, it’s just where the U is.

Give me one of the up and comers with history of strong basketball acumen and development. There’s some dice rolling there but the U will take that over risk of another Sampson-like fiasco

There are no rules anymore. The NCAA is like a neutered dog.

So, who exactly are you defending here?

The guys running drugs?

Or, the guys who ran the team APR down to about zero?

Or, the guy who decided to throw a potted plant at the head of one of the coaches?

And, I am sure you realize that some of these guys were one in the same.

So which category didn’t matter, as long as we were winning, as you said?

Now that we have NIL they wouldn't have to sell drugs to have some money in their pocket.

If he had no interest he wouldn't have talked to us 9 months ago about the job. People don't understand he just said he didn't want the job right now because his kids were in high school. One is in college, the other is a senior I believe.

What about the shitshow with his wife that was mentioned earlier in this thread? It just seems like we do not have our house in order and highly sought after coaches can detect that clearly and would rather avoid....at least for now

So, nice deflection.

And , you’re not going to debate that time frame because you don’t have a leg to stand on.

Which of these behaviors would you put up with?

Don’t recall any guys in the RMK era who got away with not going to class.

Don’t know of any player who tried to physically assault a coach.

Provide some verifiable evidence on these behind the scenes issues.

And, I was a student when the whole Tommy Baker thing went down. He didn’t last long in Bloomington

But the coach physically assault the players…don’t you see what he is saying. All coaches have their baggage and RMK had a lot of it.

There's lots of things going for IU and getting them back in the state. All the donor's and other people need to stay away. Leave it to Dolson to negotiate. Everyone else needs to just hand over the money and shut up. Everyone knows too that Buckner was pulling strings to make sure Woodson ended up with the job too and he's soon to be out of the picture.

The key word in all of what you said is system.  I don’t believe MW actually has a system he recruits to, he just tries to recruit the best available players, and that is why he struggles coaching.  The good coaches in CBB have a system they recruit to and that’s why they are successful

Matt Painter recruits to his system. I would say he’s the best in college doing this.

Just let Dolson and Tracy sit down and negotiate everything. We don't need Quinn, Wittman, Simon's, Ferguson, Pfau family in the room.

They can get a deal done. Tracy would love to live in Bloomington.

Way to many chefs in the kitchen.

And Buckner, who insisted his friend have the job, nope no way that would get screwed up.

Why do you think they went with the "we are Massholes now" response?  Seemed they could easily have said we are flattered but no.

I think his daughter may only be a sophomore.  Wellesley girls soccer plays Brookline in MIAA Division 1 Final 4 game (article from 11/24 refers to her as a sophomore).  I wonder if that would keep the door closed 2 more years.  If she is a D1 level player (which is possible since she mentions playing in nationals) then some skip playing HS soccer and focus more on national club level teams.  Not all, and many in Indiana do not skip HS.  The best state clubs are in the Carmel/Westfield area (Indiana Fire and Indy Premier) and would be quite the distance from Btown.  There might be better options closer to Cincy or L'ville.

Not saying he wont come but if his daughter is a sophomore, and wants to play club soccer Bloomington would require a lot of driving.  My daughter played club up in the Carmel area and a couple of her teammates drove up from Columbus for the 3 times a week practice.
