Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Not saying he could win at IU.  I just had high hopes.  Just because you can win or not win at a stop doesn't tell the whole story.   If winning is all we looked at then Archie was the man.  But he couldn't win at IU.  I think there are multiple parts of the puzzle that need to fit and right now our administration is a round peg in a square hole along with our coaching staff that is missing an edge piece even before we get started.

Plus, Fife got more experience under Izzo after not succeeding at IPFW.  Nothing wrong with more training to get better so who knows.

He inherited like a 7 win team that was relatively new to division one.  He had a winning record his last two season there.  I actually thought he was successful in that regard.

My annual for fun list and it's certainly not all-inclusive and I certainly don't mean to imply that every name on this list is a viable candidate.  Far from it.  Personal opinion is our next coach will be under the age of 55.

Any chance Self might be in play?  Not sure if the Big 12 will have as much pull as the SEC or the BT and maybe to keep up in the arms race he makes a move?  I know Adidas keep him in a good spot but just wondered.

No - Self will not be an option. That is a pretty long list and many on it are 100% not options. In fact, the first 11 listed have quite literally a collective zero percent chance of being the next head basketball coach at Indiana.

On the other hand, even though that's a long list, there are potential options that are not on that list. For instance, I would imagine that if things broke in certain ways Luke Murray from UConn could be an option, as I'd imagine Wes Miller or even Schertz could be an option.

I am also quite sure that Scott Dolson will not make a change to win the initial press conference; it will be with the intention of making the best hire for the extended future. As @Uspshoosier has so well stated, we need to look for a successful college basketball lifer. If it's a relatively young college basketball lifer that would be even better.

Not swimming? Their monster transfer class this year seems to indicate they got pretty good NIL.

Not sure why this was funny, @Chris007. It's consistently one of the best programs IU has with a ton of tradition and swimmers that medal in the Olympics. Very good chance for the men to win the national championship this year. Definitely better money spent than a sport like volleyball.

I have a difficult time believing we'd ever look at an assistant, but if we can get this guy roaming the stands at SSAH, I'm all for it!!!

The Woody years have pretty much made us irrelevant, but this would get us some attention. LOL.

Revenue, revenue, revenue

The tens of people that attend swimming meets dwarf in comparison to volleyball attendance.

The athletes outnumber the fans nearly 2 to 1

It is extremely telling that three years after Woody let Fife go, no college team has picked him up.

He's had opportunities but is happy were he's at right now. Also neither Schertz and or Miller will be the next coach.

There is a scenario that I don't think has been mentioned.  Certainly speculative, but isn't totally out of the realm of possibility.  That scenario is that all parties have already agreed on Woody's exit and how it will be handled.  Could explain why Woody and the staff have appeared even more lackadaisical than before.

This is a Recruiting Period which means  "Authorized athletics department staff may make in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts and evaluations".  That visit to LaLu doesn't count because Sisley has already verballed to IU.  Walsh had been very active in IN, OH and KY.  Haven't heard a peep about him having any contacts with potential recruits or Ya or Rosemond.

At 12/31/23, we had extended offers to 35 kids for the '25 class.  At 12/31/24, we had extended offers to 15 kids for the '26 class and only 3 were extended after 9/1/24.  Our most recent offers have been '25 attempts to give Trent Sisley some company in the '25 class.

Again, purely speculative but food for thought.

From your lips to God's ears... we need to get that cancer out of Bloomington ASAP.

Gotta wait for that 8 million dollar check from the cooks and Simon's before you can recruit for a few weeks.

Oh I'm sure the top swimmers get some money but no one on campus or in town are going to watch meets. They don't draw crowds and bring in any money. VB has 5K people there a match.

It’s also about what the competition is going. If nobody else is paying swimmers then why would we

Except they are getting paid. Not life changing money like some basketball and football players, but they're getting paid.

Swimming brings recognition to the university than VB does since it's one of the more popular Olympic sports. I'm sure a lot more people have heard of Lilly King than any volleyball player. The school they attend(ed) is often discussed by announcers and athletes.

I saw Nebraska VB actually turned a small profit, which is pretty amazing.  As people have noted our VB crowds have been improving as well, we may not be turning a profit but Wilkinson is nice facility.

And we are probably paying more than anybody else.
