Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Didn’t know exactly where to put this, but this seems as appropriate a place as any.

Feel free to insert your own details because saying anything more would make this a blatant conversation posted word for word and get me in trouble - but Bryson Tucker is effectively using the rest of the season as a showcase for an SEC team with NIL and a better coach who can get him ready for the league. He’s had it with this program and the staff.

Sad, because promising  five stars aren’t lining up to play for us at the moment to begin with. But fleeing after one year isn’t a good look.

That's pretty ugly, though I would think the right hire would have an excellent chance to keep him, assuming they want to. Given that the kid is just a straight shot hunter I'm not really sure how much more he can do to showcase himself.

And I doubt that anyone is wondering why. Hint: look at the corner office.

Bringing the red meat to the party right in time for Christmas!
I dont blame anyone who leaves the program while this staff is in place. Unfortunately, we as fans don’t have that option and have to ride it out.

Nope. The buttons on the TV: on/off and channel selector. Both makes avoiding the local crap completely avoidable.

If that is true about Tucker why wouldn't he just transfer at the semester break

Wouldn’t be able to play until next year for his new team.  This way he still gets to play in games for this next semester and gets to transfer and play without sitting out any semesters

My instincts and past experiences tell me that the basketball program is heading for a rough stretch. I have no confidence that this situation will be handled properly to facilitate a quick turnaround by the 2025-2026 season.

Here’s how I see things playing out:

Woodson, Buckner, and whatever supporters they have left will likely resist any changes fiercely, throwing up every possible obstacle to sabotage any moves Dotson tries to make. Based on Woodson’s past willingness to alienate fans (dismissing legitimate criticism as coming from “true fans”), I wouldn’t be surprised if he frames any decisions about his future as racially charged attacks rather than acknowledging his failure to meet not only the program’s expectations but also the lofty goals he set in his initial press conferences.

Ultimately, IU will either cave to pressure of some kind or fall back on their historically questionable decision-making. They’ll either keep Woodson (unlikely) or make another baffling hire. Then we’ll be gaslit into believing that this new hire is the one to turn the ship around—despite every instinct telling us otherwise.

I hope I’m wrong, but history doesn’t offer much encouragement. Kathy has said before that things operate a certain way at IU, and I fully expect the status quo to continue. Still, I’d love to be proven wrong.

At least there’s Cig and the football program to look forward to. The days of relying on basketball as the university’s only beacon of hope are gone. Right now, I’m completely apathetic toward the basketball program, and I don’t see that changing unless the next coach starts proving themselves on the court instead of in preseason hype.

Yeah, roster turnover is going to huge no matter what the circumstances are. New coach, it’ll be a completely new team I think. Ugh. I like a few of these guys but they are hard to judge in our system because I can’t tell if our system creates lazy players lacking fundamentals or if that’s all on coach. Either way, it’s on the coach.

As far as Tucker goes, he just needs to try to help this team win games. Nothing helps your stock better than winning. We don’t have enough of that mentality on this team. Too much individual thoughts. That fully includes Tucker who takes some terrible shots at times.

A lot of us were worried about this. I hope we’ve got a good plan in place one way or another, but this team can still try to rally and live up to their potential. And gosh I hope they do, but nothing physically shows it’ll happen.

Cignetti just recruited a couple very strong players. Woodson just keeps looking worse and worse. Cig's stripping away every excuse Woody could give. 11-1 first season as HC, took the team to the playoffs, recruiting high level key pieces. Rest assured though, ole Woody did his job.

Yep.  And Cig did it with comparatively way way less NIL and operating budget vs. what Woody gets.

The wild card in your analysis is Pam Whitten.  Like her or not, she's a bad @$$ and wants IU athletics to be what it should be.  She set the football program in the right direction, and even Cig gives her credit publicly.  I am sure she's thinking basketball is up next as that has the IU tradition behind it.  At least I hope so.

We hope so. Seems like Dolson will need others like Pam to back him to be able to make the change needed.

if Buckner tries to block a move that should become public knowledge and should get all the criticism that comes his way

Isn’t QB’s term up this year?

Yes, if by this year you mean 2025. The doom and gloom bunch like to think he'll get another term or will still have power as a lame duck.

I just worry about what tricks he might be able to pull to keep Woodson around before he loses his appointment. They've both proven they don't care about the program as much as lining their own pockets and QB won't be out until awhile after the look for a new HC. Who knows what they might try to pull.
