Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

If this roster only makes the Sweet 16 then the calls for him to be fired will be even louder than last season.
A sweet sixeteen with this roster would be a big disappointment similar to crean with the zeller team. Would also likely show Woodson ceiling dissimilar to crean.

3 instate kids, 2 of them have IU ties and you only get one. After the last 3 seasons. That's Fireable IMO if we don't make the sweet 16 this year

My source said the reason why Mullins is not going to IU is because Woodson didn’t make him a priority soon enough and the offense is more geared for inside play and not the 3 point line.  The fact that he can’t recruit high school kids consistently is a fireable offense too!   He has landed an occasional decent recruit but seems to epically fail to land a decent recruiting class the last couple years.  I wondered when this thread was going to resurface again!

My source is from the athletic department says Braylon thinks Woodson is old and low energy and I can’t really argue. Plus UCONN is a better program. He just wants to get to the NBA not worried about working at Cook in 15 years.

Our sources are basically saying the same thing but in different ways!  I agree, old and low energy pretty much sums up the fact that he doesn’t go all out on recruiting high school kids for long term / long run recruiting but seems to do ok in the short term / short run recruiting

Wasn't it Mullins that Scott Dolson had to tell Woodson to go watch in thesectionals? Low energy indeed.

I believe it was!  Yes, he wasn’t a priority then but once he became a 5 star recruit, then all of a sudden he was a priority.  Too little, too late!  IMO, it seems like Woodson doesn’t value the 3 ball as much as the big man, and as much as he talks about it too.  Also, it is my opinion that Woodson’s success with this team needs to go beyond the sweet 16, IMO

You might be right but, as unfathomable as it is, we have only made it to the Elite 8 ONCE in the last 30 years  ONCE.  ONE friggen time!

Those in power might be satisfied with a Sweet 16.

You are most likely correct but the guy is having trouble recruiting high school kids long term!  That to me raises a red flag when it comes to him being able to run a program like Indiana!  Yes, he can probably bail himself out again with the transfer portal, providing he’s got the money to spend but what happens when the money runs out?

Portal = coming up with cash makes it sound like High School kids are different but that’s just not the case. The word is the Mullins is roughly a million dollar dude and he, as we all know, is a HS kid.  Does anyone think he would have  considered UCONN for 50k? No way. Does landing a one and done HS kid “build” a program like the good ol days. No way.

Doesn’t matter if a school is trying to land a player from the Portal/HS/Man from Mars etc., in these times you need cash for all of them. EVERY program, not just IU/Woody, is in trouble if the cash runs out.

That could happen if the traditionalist giving money gets fed up with him not landing high school kids consistently, especially Indiana kids

I'm not sure I buy that bolded part. IU has been recruiting him for more than a year and got in when he was ranked around 100. UConn jumped in after he blew up. So that doesn't really seem to fit that statement if he ends up there.

The rest of it I believe, since we have 3 years of Woodson's inside out offense as well as him on record saying that the offense needs to be run that way, that they shoot enough 3s, and his job isn't to get 3 point shooters (Kopp) shots. Supposedly they've adjusted the offense this year and the Mullins have seen that in a practice but maybe it wasn't enough.

The old and low energy mentioned in other comments also makes sense.

I'm going to wait for the announcement before declaring Mullins gone, though, but Woodson doesn't have a good track record in these types of recruitments.

I find it funny that we didn't see any of the Woodson's haters during the spring and summer when we were getting all the transfers in. They weren't here when Tucker committed or when a lot of the players decided to come back. They come out the first sign of a problem

One thing is for sure, he and his supporters have no excuses left, he has a lot of talent and experience on this team, so if he under performs again he needs to go!

Well yes. That’s the way it works!

I was wanting a change after last year but it didn't happen so I will be rooting for a great season.  I just feel there are a vocal minority who I feel would rather us fail because of their hatred for Woodson

You're more likely to see posts in this thread in the fall because:

1) The season is starting soon.

2) Fall is when most high school recruits make their decisions, which usually means we get bad news about high school players the staff spent an eternity recruiting.

The first sign of a problem will probably happen when the coaching job is on full display when the season starts! Let's hope coach can utilize the acquired and retained talent! If this season turns to crap this thread will be hot lol. Let's all pray this thread isn't needed

This thread was in full swing during the spring and early summer. It's been quiet recently because there hasn't been anything new. I don't know that you're the one who should be calling people out since you were calling all season for Woodson to be fired and emailed Dolson about it multiple times. Even now you're not exactly positive as shown by this one from yesterday in another thread:

Well this looks like this recruitment is ending in another disappointment.

I am ready for the season to start because I am tired of hearing about recruiting and the Portal/NIL.

If he does choose UCONN it is obvious it is because they are the top program right now. Also he can actually see what his re can be in their offense compared to us saying we are changing our offense.

The only other thing is that about two weeks before Harrelson's commitment everyone thought he was going to IU and didn't select us.

I also still think you need to build most of your roster with high school recruiting and supplement that with the portal. I am to the point where I have a lot of concern with Woodson and his recruiting if the high school players. We got in early with both Harrelson and Mullins and still couldn't get them

I get it but that’s what I was told!  But Woodson’s track record as far as recruiting high school kids long term, speaks for itself.  If they didn’t have the transfer portal and NIL, I would really hate to see where this program would be.  Would Woodson still be the coach?
