Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Two years ago, we had Miller Kopp and Parker Stewart and underutilized them both.

Unfortunately, there’s really no reason to believe Woodson will change. In his first 3 seasons, we’ve finished 321st, 352nd, and 355th in the country in 3 pt attempts. The game has completely passed him by.

Why would he change? He's doing his job. Remember???

We got into the tournament last year because we had a first team all American in the paint….and still got blown out in the second round.

It wasn’t because of 3pt shooting. In that game from the arc:

Miami - 9/23

IU - 8/25

We shot 3s at a rate in that game that would’ve put us near the top in the country. And while not a great shooting display we were only 7% off of Miami’s shooting from 3.

Miami’s 4 starting guards actually shot more effectively from 2 than 3 that game. Which goes back to my point…. They tore our perimeter defensive scheme up. They were quick and ran our guys ragged.

Yes, we should shoot more 3’s. I haven’t read one person here arguing otherwise. But our problems with defense remain which is perfectly illustrated by the Miami game you brought up—and that was a game where we essentially matched them from behind the arc!

Just to play devil's advocate though - doesn't Purdue getting to a Final 4 put that belief to bed?

Edey touches the ball every possession and either shoots it or passes it back out after getting double teamed in the post.

At the end of the day, you just need a really good team.

If you watch them, the ball never stops in the post.  And frequently, it's not a first option -- you see them with pull up jumpers a lot.  When they do go post to Edey, it's either a quick move to the bucket or a quick pass back out.  Then, maybe a reset and a second pass back in.  Meanwhile, the guards/wings are all moving about.  It's a much more open system than what IU does.

Our perimeter defensive problems is because MR can’t guard the 4 and MM just started guarding the 3 the last 6 or so games of the season.

Not because Galloway/X/Cupps. Yes, Cupps got toasted a couple times….but not nearly as bad as MM and MR….which, why is MM and MR guarding the 3 and the 4? Well, look at the other end of the floor.

Neither Reneau or MM guarded the perimeter against Miami.

Both Cupps and Mgbako improved markedly on defense the last third of the season. It's almost always that way with freshmen.

Well yeah we had a national player of the year candidate and a first round draft pick at guard.

Yes, and having players do that well is the goal.

If we're penalizing the staff when players do not perform well or develop, the staff deserves commensurate praise when players develop and we are a 4 seed.

If we do even better than 4 seed and two outstanding players? More praise. If we do even worse than the year that just ended? New coach.

At least other schools still have expectations.  Hope they don't hire Moren.

Came here to post this. Tennessee cares about women’s basketball. Indiana cares about women’s basketball. Indiana doesn’t care about men’s basketball however.

That’s pathetic. Jesus, that’s enough to get most coaches fired alone.

Here is the Hoosiers for Good report from this season. 2.6 million down from 2022 when it was 3.4 million. 70 athletes received some of this money.

Crazy, can't help to go back to when Alford was suspended for posing in a charity calendar.  To think of 50 some years of NCAA stupidity.   How far we have come.
