That song might not be a bad transfer portal recruiting theme song.

I'm not convinced that Woody's plan was to build a team through the portal. I think he got the job, realized how much work it was to actually go out and recruit these kids and decided the portal was going to be easier. Remember, he was an NBA coach. One of the reasons you see guys go to the NBA and stay is because it's not the same kind of grind. A 60 year old coach who's made a career in the collegiate ranks is much different than a 60 year old coach coming from a career in the NBA
Himself fine, but what about the assistants. Why are they not out on the road every night. These guys are supposed to be recruiters but from what I can tell is they are just sitting around and posting tweets. Scam artists and theifs is all this staff is

They could at least upgrade to IPhones and send a text or face time for those hundreds of thousands and millions dollars contracts….of course they would have to learn how to use them for that purpose of recruiting, talking to families and community involvement and that might be an inconvenience.

That is debatable. I don’t see Purdue getting it done this year and this is the year.

IU did just beat them twice one year ago and went further in tourney than they did.

Rest assured, I don’t think their fans see us getting it done this year either.

I mean he had dj white and eric Gordon would be tough to step in and win with that lack of talent

Yep that team still could have done damage in the ncaa. Probably not win it but elite 8. That team was 22-4 when he took over. The only proven thing is former knight players aren't good coaches. Alford probably is the best.

Not defending d d coaching a abilities in the slightest. That being said that is not fair. That team didn't play hard after sampson was fired. I believe it has been confirmed by certain players themselves. Gordon was injured and I think dj white was still trying. You can't win if over half your team wants to lose

We are not Duke or UK and that plan hasn’t been working that well for anyway. Both looking little better but tourney success has been hard.

UNC brought in 5 transfers and moved 7 out after a bad year. Utah State just won conference with 9 transfers.  There are examples all over the place.

There is no doubt this is route College BB is going.

now, I get it, most are in the Woody couldn’t coach or land them anyway. Different conversation.

You can't be Duke or UK if you can't win and you're insanely lazy at recruiting.

I wouldn’t go that far.  Loved the Dipo/Zeller team, loved the way shot, even loved the team that surprised and won the big ten yogi’s senior year.

He will obviously be back they seem to think the strategy of just throwing money at guys will work. It is happy and blue chips except other top programs can match them buck for buck.

Speaking of, Nick Nolte retired one game into a season where they threw money at blue chips.

Agree, in the long term that’s how to build the program back up.

it’s been acknowledged here that we aren’t anywhere close to the Duke, Kentucky, Kansa, etc of the world. I agree.

It’s been a common theme that the IU fan base is growing more and more impatient to return to relevance .That 20 plus years is not acceptable for IU. I agree.

So, how are we going to achieve this quick turnaround that everyone wants?

It’s been mentioned here that if May came and brought his FAU guys with him, that would be an immediate upgrade. Probably would, but how different would that be from getting guys from the portal? They would have no real connection to IU.

If Pearl came and brought several of his recruits with him, would they be IU guys or Pearl guy?

As I said, I want to see IU back to prominence just like you do. Soon as possible. I am not talking about the weakness of Woodson’s recruiting system. I’m talking about what it’s going to take to get the program back to being competitive as soon as possible and getting the fans back and connected to the program

How many players do you think come go to a program (IU or any other school) just because of the program? Not many. Most go to play for a certain coach. It's been like that for a long, long time. That's why there's recruiting. Do you think most of Knight's players came because it's IU or because they wanted to play for Knight? (hint: it's the latter)

That's not a bad thing, it's just the way it is. Now, being at a certain school can very much help but ultimately the very large majority of players choose to go where they go because of the coach.

So from above, if some of May's players followed him it would help because they're already familiar with him and his system while he's familiar with their personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. Pearl bringing his recruits would be better because they are players recruited to play in his system. This is better than Woodson because their systems are better than his which it to just pound the ball inside. They also seem to know what they want in a recruit while Woodson just seems to look at the ranking and think he'll figure out how they fit later.

Do you really want to be Purdue?

That Helms banner does annoy me every time I see it and how they push it in my face

They've been ranked in the top 5 for pretty much all of this season and last, including multiple stints at #1. Won the B1G last year and this year. Won the B1GT last year and probably will this year. This will be their second consecutive 1 seed in the NCAAT.

Would I want IU to do that? Umm, let me think about that for a second....hell yes I would. Are you kidding me?

You'd rather we avoid that because it's Purdue who is doing it right now? Keeping Woodson would certainly remove the possibility of being like Purdue.

Face it, under Painter Purdue has had much more success than IU during that same time. Sure, you can scoff that they haven't won a NC but the fact is that IU's last one was back in 1987. 37 years. In another 5-10 years, unless a miracle happens and IU wins another one despite the admins efforts to keep IU basketball terrible, it won't just be the recruits who weren't born when IU last won one, but also their parents.

My thoughts, and my thoughts only, Dolson doesn’t want Woody back. He fought, but lost the battle. You know what AD’s don’t HAVE to do…make an announcement “our coach who is still under contract next year is returning”. My guess, Dolson isn’t going to say a word. It’s leaked out he is staying and that’s all that matters. Open and shut case. Either Dolson leaked it to Osterman or someone did his dirty work for him.

Retaining Woodson says we don't care about basketball.

Not having a press conference or at very least an official statement says we don't care about the fans.

Do you think that's the message Dolson and IU want to make? I doubt it. They have to release something but it'll probably be after the game today or when they lose in the B1GT.
