A Case for Dusty May

How did he get worse from years 2 to 3. 17-15 to 13-10. Two games over .500 is worse than 3 games over .500. Also played 9 less games in year 3 so you can't look at win totals.

Indeed... 53.1% (17-15) vs 56.6% (13-10) ... he's actually slightly better

Let’s go up to Ann Arbor, light the big house on fire, and bring Dusty May back like a war bride and force him to bear us many championships.

I’d still be happy to have him but I think the ship sailed to the point that I would guess Brad’s more likely.

Agree, ship has sailed on Dusty. Sucks but we have options.

Brad Stevens ( I know i know but he apparently would consider coaching again now that he won a title with Boston)

Bruce Pearl ( too old? Maybe but has fire. If he wins a title at Auburn this year he would be a lifer there)

Ben McCollum ( maybe the best realistic option, young basketball savant, does he have the desire to be at a basketball crazy U? I'm guessing he would listen)

Assuming Dusty is a no go, this is my order of calls.

Pearl is probably a lifer there now. Supposedly they talked numbers with him last season, and yet here we are.

Good coach, more energy then Woodson, but at this point I'd call May before him.

Provided that things are going very well and the money is there…Why would Bruce Pearl or anyone even want to consider a dumpster fire like IU unless it’s earlier in career and it’s a move upwards?  Exception: B.S. because well he is B.S. lol Brad Stevens….and to a lesser degree Dusty May.
IU men’s basketball first needs a no nonsense integrity approach and culture brought back to program before winning one game in the future (next season).  Either one of these guys would do that with Stevens overall experience’s unsurpassed by anyone.  And the IU fanbase would be gracious giving either some grace enough for correction course.  (Brad Stevens would not be intimidated at all).

Other than those two a no nonsense high integrity culture first coach followed by winning.  Most importantly this is the IU men’s basketball hire of the 21st century.

The ship has definitely not sailed on Dusty May.

4m dollar buy out after this season. His family still lives in Green County. Am I sold on him as the face of our program....I wasn't, but he's so significantly better than what we have and I'm not sure there will be a better option.

Note. Buckners term ends this summer.
