This makes you not serious. Look at any version of any stats with him vs without.

X was not “bad” before the injury. He was the number 2 most productive player. Offense and Defense.

The team was rough. Woody was still on laying deep into rotations, trying things etc. We also had tons of new guys. MM adjusting, new scheme for many, Ware still little soft, etc. Everything stayed same or got worse once Cupps took over. No growth which would have happened. Then X came back and was rusty and then frustrated. Ohio State and recently Iowa showed how much better this team is with him starting and playing even solid.

Too many let their person feeling for him cloud the  facts.

I’m with LCS.  He’s had small stretches of being good.  But in general it’s been just the Strugglest of Buses.  I actually like the kid and think he has a big heart.  I think is IQ and overthinking impairs his abilities.  I also think he’s a marginal shooter.  He doesn’t command the defenses respect with his shooting ability and that impacts our offense.

He's projected Top 20. Great to leave. God awful draft class.

 Quick google search:

NBADRAFTROOM — 30.

NBADRAFT.NET:  47

CBSSPORTS:  28

Tankathon:  20

Yardbarker:  28

the ringer:  17

aversge of those 6:  27.  I’d say ‘top 20’ is a ceiling, not his projection.

Being the "2nd most productive" means literally nothing when the team is bad. He was bad. Period.

They have an excellent coach. Continuity, for sure they do. But they have a coach that has his vision and knows what works to win.

Sidenote-they have one of their best recruiting classes of all time coming in. Playing time will be a problem for some.

If everyone comes back, including Edey, they won’t have any room for them.  How is that going to work?  The only thing that could happen is Painter will have to Crean some of his guys!

As long as Edey leaves idc who they bring back or how good they are. Watching and hearing about him 24/7 is old

I think the entire US is.  He’s got a punchable face, but the problem is, not many people can reach it!

Another complaint...

Michigan State is considered to be in the tourney because they lose to good teams.

Wins against your ey teams...

Indiana State and Baylor

Losses...

James Madison, Duke, Arizona, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Northwestern, Illinois, Wisconsin

Outside of that... Wins are USI, Butler, Alcorn State, Georgia Southern, Oakland, Stony Brook, Penn State, Rutgers, Minnesota, Maryland and Michigan.

Yeah, Southern Indiana, Alcorn State, and Stony Brook really should drag your rankings down.

From the people I have listened to from Purdue on local radio pretty much said that Edey and Gillis and Morton won't be back. I also thought Jones was in his last year

The only players who have the Covid year are Edey, Morton and Gillis. If all three of them leave, Purdue is still oversigned by one. My guess is all three of them told Painter they aren't planning to return.

He has a year of eligibility left.  I’ve heard from an insider if he projects 2nd round, he will be returning to try for most NPOY of all time.  Won’t that be a shame.

That’s because of NIL.  If he returns next year, he will have a shot to break Calbert’s B10 scoring record, that will be a crying shame because he would have 5 full seasons to do it, because the only thing that was cancelled was most of the B10 tournament and NCAA tournament, and everyone knows Turdue would have been 1 and done.  My guess he’ll be back because he won’t be drafted in the 1st round.

This is the part I find so disingenuous with the WTH … Woody. Is that the best we could have done?

Who were you getting? Porter Moser, yeah, joke. Beard, we have been over this and he wasn’t coming anyway. Pearl, just locked into new contract. Holtman haha

So think back to then, who were you getting? This “yeah, the IU admin isn’t serious” - who were they supposed to get? No top coach is coming. Is this the main issue with those in this camp? You believe if the admin was serious you were getting Bill Self or Scott Drew?  Just look at UNC, Louisville, Duke - you can say they all went in-house (familiar huh) but they were not pulling a rabbit out of the hat either.

When you think across the college landscape there isn’t a ton of guys out there right now. Really isn’t. Most all options were/are lower/mid major guys. Much better chance of one of those succeeding after few solid years from Woody. Coming straight into this mess from Archie would have been rough. TJD and others probably bolt, lower coach doesn’t have the NBA cred like Woody recruiting is harder, etc No, NIL doesn’t solve all that when others have good to great NiL as well.

The whole argument doesn’t even make much sense to me.

Not a lot of quality coaches are going to want to be sloppy seconds to that guy who isn't coaching anymore.

Can you imagine the call:

Hey _____ (fill in your guy), how would you like to coach IU.

I heard you were going with Stevens.

No, the media lies.  You were our "first" choice all along.  We love you.

If I was your first choice, why did it take so long to call?

Meh.  TONS of coaches that are hired who weren't the first choice for schools are successful.  If Woodson wasn't the right choice after Stevens, that isn't about him being the second choice.

I thought Jones did too, but I am probably wrong.  But why would they come back, if they all have their Covid year and their possibility of an earlier than expected exit from the tourney?

I sure hope you are right, I don’t know if we all can take another year of the jolly green giant

Edey was practically begging the Thunder for a contract back in the spring. He didn't show up in a single mock draft last season. If he's showing up in this many projections now, I can't see why he'd wait another year. The deck is already stacked against him due to his age and position.

If we take a "step back?" It depends.

Is a step back finishing 10-10 in conference and being one of the first four out, but returning Trey, Malik, Mack, and others; or is a step back finishing 7-13 and having a mass exodus?

It's interesting as hell to watch it play out.

I meant not if the team takes a step back, rather. If you remove yourself and look at the Macro, does IU really have a strategy, or it a scramble lets figure this out year over year?

Purdue seems to have a system and strategy and they recruit to it. Not sure we have anything defined at the moment

I’m sure this is supposed to be funny, but surely we all know there isn’t a single chance that this is how those conversations would go.
