And everything connected with the program is connected to losing and mediocrity. That is what happens when you do nothing as program for basically the last 30 years.

This is where we disagree.  Everything you dislike is the only thing with any connection to winning right now.  The play on the court isn't and any changes you make to the aesthetics aren't either.  What exactly do you think they can do to the jersey to make it "cooler".

The only difference between the jerseys worn by arguably the best program the past 30 years and our jerseys are the school colors and a Nike Swoosh.  Not sure how you update the jerseys to he cool.  Maybe you could go out and show an example.

Maybe I am just dumb and not seeing it.  Specifically, what would you like to see things changed to.  What school is a model for your preference?

The striped pants don't have **** to do with any of that.  You could sex up the cheerleaders, change the court, pump rap music in during time outs, get new jerseys, new shoes, replace the band with a DJ, replace Assembly Hall and you could have done all of that 15 years ago and it wouldn't have mattered because of Tom Crean, Archie Miller, and Mike Woodson and the couple dozen players who were here during that time.  Then all that new stuff is tied to losing.  You have it exactly backwards, all the hokey boring stuff that doesn't matter and the old head fans are what ties us to the last time we were winning.

Go ahead and change all the stuff you want to change. It isn't going to make a bit of difference to what actually matters.

Ok yes let's do that.

Culture =/= brand. Our culture stinks from the top down. That has been discussed at unimaginable lengths here. Our brand is strong and it’ll take a LOT to change that.

I wholeheartedly disagree that one reflects the other, but if you want to change all that and risk turning a national, recognizable brand into another soulless cut and paste, red and white program, there are some real consequences that come with it.

Either way, the brand isn’t changing and people will dust off their candy stripes as soon as the wins come. Whenever that may be.

Last thought on this.  Michigan is a "cool" school.  They have the Nike gear, they have a member of the Fab Five as a coach, they have always been seen as "cool" in my 44 year lifetime particularly since the Fab Five showed up with the baggy shorts.  Some of their best ball the past 3 decades was during the Beilein era and that guy got run out of the NBA for being anything but cool.  There is nothing cool about Wisconsin and they are up there frequently.  Same with Purdue as of late.  Cool doesn't win games and you won't find Purdue and Wisconsin fans looking to change up how they do things to be "cool" like Juwan Howard's Wolverines, because they suck at what matters.

If we stop sucking at what matters, nobody will give a crap about the other stuff.  Winning cures almost everything in sports.

Well put. I don't have anything to add except to say you succinctly said what I have been trying to convey.

And what is the difference between Indiana and Duke right now? Indiana and Kentucky? Kansas? North Carolina? Any sort of difference over the last 30 years at all?

I don't think the brand would be hurt whatsoever by changing jerseys. Pants are one thing, IMO, that don't actually need to change. But with NIL sales? No way different jersey designs would hurt jersey sales by any means. In fact, it's help because people would want that design, that design, that design. And the consumer apparel part has been talked about obviously... It's pretty weak with Adidas. But we will obviously continue sticking with Adidas because.... I don't actually know why.

They changed their pants -- and we didn't?

Personally? I don't think there's anything wrong with the uniforms. Not because of tradition or anything, I just think it's a strong design. People always say it here when this comes up, and I totally agree, there's nothing wrong with alternates here and there. Go crazy with them, but the main design works for me. I'm also not really sure what there is to change. I've seen other ideas for uniforms over the years and they usually fall into one of two categories; those being 1) poorly created in Microsoft Paint and 2) building off of our tradition, which is what we're looking to get away from if I understand correctly. That's just a totally subjective piece of the pie.

We're with Adidas simply because they pay the best and we're a flagship basketball school for them. You're not getting that with Nike, imo. Why Adidas continues to blow it with fan gear is beyond me. I firmly believe this fanbase would destroy Kansas' fan gear sales if all things were equal.

I think if you reverse that with the uniforms it would work. I agree, most concepts that pop up suck and aren't original. Which is what I would like. And there isn't a ton we could do, but there are things we could. But me personally, I think going with 2 completely new home and away jerseys, two that are completely different than right now and possibly an alternate would work. But what you do from there is have a few nights throughout the season where you bring back our current or traditional look for throwback nights.

And I get it if Adidas pays us the best right now... But i don't see how Nike wouldn't end up paying off way more down the road. Sticking with Adidas just seems like a right now move and not a 5, 10 years and on down the road kind of move. If I had the talent on a computer, I'd throw some concepts together, but I don't have those talents lol.

I agree. I don't seen anything wrong with what we currently wear. I think it's a cool, simple design. Not sure what you'd change -- or what would demand a big change. We wore some Black History Month unis recently (can't remember exactly when) -- thought those were a pretty cool alternate option.

I have seen some people say we should add names to the jerseys. TBH, with only 15 or so players, I don't think we really need them. But if they eventually added them, I'd be fine with it (not that they care what I think). I recall Davis saying he'd like to do that, but don't remember any other coach pushing for that.

IMO, it'd be difficult to change the color scheme too much on any alternate uni we might wear. If we go black -- a popular option -- we'd look like our little brothers up north, and if we went grey, we'd look like our little brothers to the east. But I'm sure there are cool options someone could come up with for an alternate look every now and then that keep the home unis white and the visiting duds red.

Maybe as a compromise on the name/no name thing -- the alternates could have names?

I personally want to embrace the "cream" part of our colors more. Cream that outlines the letters and numbers. Get striping down that side that has red and cream(or white and cream on the red jerseys). I personally liked the cream jerseys we wore when Crean was here, but the jersey design itself was poorly executed.
