Doing a quick guess at our starting units on both sides of the ball as presently constructed:

Offense:

QB: Rourke

RB: Howland

WR1: McCulley

WR2: Sarratt

WR3: Cross

TE: Horton

LT: Smith

LG: Kidwell

C: Katic

RG: Stephens

RT: Wedig

Defense:

DE: Kamara

DT: Blidi

DT: Carpenter

DE: Carr

LB: Fisher

LB: Walker

CB: Minor

CB: Toomer

CB: Sharpe

S: Asbury

S: Jones

offense seems relatively straight forward, but definitely a lot of competition on D

I’d expect a couple people to depart the WR and RB room each by the time the season starts

This.  I don't expect CCC to have two scholarship kickers either.  Net, I am not concerned that the program is at 91 grants for '24 on January 5th.  If anything, I actually expect a few more additions at DE/DL and LB over the coming weeks based on reported offers and staff engagement.

We have a former conference POY at QB plus Tayven?

Yes Rourke, the conference POY, is the proven one, Tayven has not really proven much yet.  If Rourke gets injured then we would be relying on unproven guys.

Tayven has quite a few starts for a backup, imo. Plus he'll have been on a college campus for 2.5 years before the season rolls around, 3 spring balls, etc.

QB is also one of those spots where veteran guys do not go if they are not typically going to start so getting another experienced guy is probably not likely anyway.  Hoping this staff is much better at developing QBs.

Well.. there ya go. That was going to be my next point. I think we have a reasonable amount of experience because even Lowery isn't a TR FR.

Idk, kinda like this QB room as a whole.

Another way of looking at it; we will have one of the most experienced QB rooms in the B1G. About 36 career starts between Rourke and Jackson.

Developing QB’s was one of Cignetti’s prime selling points, as I recall.

I don't follow many college football teams, so I'm just asking.  Roughly what percentage start any given season with multiple 'proven' QBs on their roster?

I don't disagree but when you see the WR room, I just want to make sure we have the QB depth needed to make sure we can maximize the WR talent. Hoping we have few injuries and Tayven can make a big leap.  Could even see Cherry fill in if needed later in the season if he comes along quickly.
