Allen seemed to go after bigger targets at the receivers, it seems that the new staff is going for speed which is something IU teams have lacked for years

Personally I think this is a good approach. Speed gets you the big downfield plays that IU has lacked for a while. Get some TEs with receiver skills for the end zone plays. Don't get me wrong, would love to have McCulley back, but it looks as though that ship has sailed.

Totally, and I think it may be a bit of a NIL resource allocation and efficiency for the staff - are you better off with Sorsby, McCulley, and Lucas or 7-8 guys that are pretty good for that price?  CCC's NIL is finite and he has 85 scholarship athletes to be mindful of.

FWIW, Cig says that our new and improved football NIL will make us very competitive with every team in the B1G save for OSU, UM, and PSU.

Looks like we had about $1 million to work with last season an will have up near $5 million this year.

I will never forget in 2015 when we lost to Michigan 48-41 and lost a 2OT heartbreaker. The stadium was more insane than I'd ever seen it before and ever saw it since. On par with our basketball environments for sure, I was at the front of the student section and soooo ready to rush the field. I had my spot picked out and everything. I was gutted. I feel like that energy was a glimpse of what CCC will be able to recreate and I'm looking forward to it/happy the students will have a chance to see us actually win a game like that.
We've got the $$ resources and, now the staff, to build a team worth getting excited for. That in itself has me pretty giddy.
Sudfeld had a cannon on him. Jordan Howard was a beast.
Also at this game. 50 yard line 2nd row. Best seats I've ever had for anything. Howard was a beast and our DB's were historically awful. Great game

Not making light of mental health, but using it as a reason for hitting the portal is certainly something.

Football is such a tough game to play. If a young man needs time to clear his head? Full time student for a year seems wiser than the portal.

I saw a quote the other day that makes me think that CCC will take a moneyball approach to NIL.

That's what I was thinking.

He's probably putting that in there in hopes of getting a waiver since he used his transfer already.

Oh look, it's #1 on the list:

UNDERGRADUATE FOUR-YEAR TRANSFER WAIVERS (Effective for 2023-24 championship eligibility)

An undergraduate transfer waiver will only be considered for  student-athletes who transfer:

(1)  For reasons related to the student-athlete’s physical or mental health and well-being;

(2)  Due to exigent circumstances outside the student-athlete’s control (e.g., physical or sexual assault or discrimination based on a protected class); or

(3)  Assertions involving diagnosed education impacting disabilities.

I hope it's more a more rigorous process than just having them say, "I need the waiver for my mental health" or "Staying at that school would affect my mental health" without giving more than that.

I personally have no problems if they wanted to give unlimited transfers without sitting out. But if they're going to put restrictions on the transfer waiver process and put one of the 3 reasons as mental health, I don't want to see every player claiming mental health issues just to get a waiver. It needs to be a rigorous process. If not, it'll make mental health a joke and have a negative effect on those who actually have issues.

Only in that he plans to pay for proven performance, not potential. He's got an exponentially bigger budget than Allen and i assume he’ll spend it.

To play football at a high level you have to be able to adapt and overcome.  Football is mean, brutal, and debilitating.  People who used to be your friends literally want to kill you and end your career.  You need to be mentally strong.  We need Neanderthals who hate to lose.

Right. But was someone like Sorsby worth 10% of the pool? Nope.

What was his performance?  Not great.

I am all in with Coach Cig's criteria -- What have you done for me lately.   I am sick of "potential."  I want a$$ kickers.

In Cig we trust.
