I stole this from @RaceToTheTop, to get this one going, I think its a great preview to this game. Thanks Race.

Next up....Harvard.  Malik Mack has been really, really good for them.  As a team, they have shot well from three (41%) but they take it at a below average rate (22 per game).  They hung with Boston College, losing by 9.  Beat Massachusetts in overtime, but that was really a game they should have lost -- U Mass was 10 of 25 from the line.  Don't expect it to be an easy one -- Pom has IU as a seven point favorite.  Torvik has IU by 9.

I don't see this team having an easy game all season.

Harvard is 5-1 after their win today (one win was against a D2 team).  Only loss was a 73-64 one at Boston College.  Two close wins -- OT win against Massachusetts and a 6 point win over Colgate.

Starters:

  • Malik Mack, PG. 6'1" freshman.  20.2 points, 3.8 reb, 5.5 ast.  Shooting 47/46/85.
  • Louis Lemond, SG.  junior 6'6".  10.2 points, 3.3 reb, 0.8 ast.  Shooting 43/41.  Has not shot any free throws.  Almost all shots he takes will be from three.
  • Chandler Pigge.  SF.  sophomore. 6'5".  10.2 points, 7.2 reb, 2.3 ast.  Shooting 46/31.  Hit all 14 free throws he's taken.
  • Chisom Okpara, PF.  sophomore.  6'8".  16.0 points, 6.2 reb, 1.5 ast.  Shooting 45/38/67.
  • Justice Ajogbor, C.  senior, 6'10".  8.8 points, 8.2 reb, 1.3 ast.  Shooting 53%, does not take threes. Only taken 4 free throws, hit 1.  3.2 blocks/game.
  • Thomas Battles, F.  Freshman.  6'7".  6.2 points, 2.8 reb, 1.2 ast.  Shooting 53/29.  Only taken three free throws, hit 1.
  • Luca Ace-Nasteski, C.  Freshman 6'10".  2.7 points, 2.8 reb.  SHooting 50%.  Made 1 o2 from three.  Only 3 of 9 on free throws.  Not a shot blocking threat despite his height.
  • Denham Wojik, G.  Junior, 6'2".  2.7 points, 1.3 reb, 2.2 ast.  Shooting 55%, 2 of 3 from three.
  • Tyler Simon, G.  Junior 6'5". 9th man in rotation.  2.8 pts, 1.3 reb, 1.3 ast.  Shooting 42/17.

So team size is really not that big of an issue for them.  Not very deep -- at most like to play 8.

Harvard won at Colgate today, they are 4-1 ranked 139 in kenpom. Pumped for this one, going to Colts game at 1 and then heading straight to Gainbridge for the Hoosiers.

[/quotewear your hoosier gear to the colts game!

Having had plenty of rest/time to regroup after our last game, keen to see us come out looking better here. Harvard is no slouch but they also aren't UConn. Can we take lessons learned onboard and apply them quickly - both the players and the coaching staff? If so, I'll be very encouraged about what this means for the rest of the season.

We've got to win this one and the Maryland/Michigan games IMO.

Win this one and one of the Maryland Michigan games

Michigan will be the tougher of the two, but getting out to a 2-0 start in B10 play is definitely possible... and would be huge for our confidence at this time in the season. Especially since I'm assuming Auburn and KU end up being losses. Dropping one of the 2 early B10 games probably won't change my thinking on the team's potential/ceiling but would be a little disappointing, given Maryland has looked objectively pretty bad this year and Michigan is not invincible either.

Maybe I've got Cream and Crimson colored glasses on this morning, but I am optimistic about the rate of improvement we make during this stretch without as many games and more time for practice, etc. Of course when we have an ugly stretch in the Harvard game I will curse myself for jynxing us!
