49-25 second half.

Mack is gonna have a big old film session to learn how to play college basketball quality defense.

Yep. The consistency on that end is my big question for him... he showed that he CAN do it. But he needs to sustain it.

Woodson won't let him off the hook for that, so I am optimistic that he gets it together eventually this season.

Gallo and X playing any better?

A little on XJ’s end. Sadly for Galloway the one thing I wanted to see him add in the off-season was the ability to stick his legs and pull up for a jumper, and it appears he’s not going to get there. It’d help tremendously around the rim (and possibility with him being about to shoot 3’s off the dribble). So many of his drives end in low percentage attempts around the rim. He might have a higher eFG% from behind the arc than he does at the rim.

Definitely a lot of work left to be done, just as CMW said Friday! Ignoring the first half, I saw some things to like. Cupps, X, and TG are going to cause problems in defense! Sparks and Walker, like! KW played with energy today, it's a start, let's keep it rolling! Lots of energy from the bench. Oh hell, it's just the first exhibition game what am I saying? But in others news, IU BASKETBALL IS BACK! Oh how I have missed thee!

Malik attributed the first half to jitters.

Said they need to get tougher, play better D, and try to keep teams under 60. "We're gonna try to do that this this season"

Says they need to talk more and show the new guys what they need to do on the court and we'll be fine.

And that sounds right on.

- ugly, out of sync 1st half

- dominant 2nd half

a W by 20-plus with ultimately a good number of assists and better, focused D

Also reflects staff’s coaching at the break

Was very disappointed in Galloway, decision making going to the rim was bad. Cupps showing to be a better defender then I thought he would be

Trey had a crap game.

When the guy you can 100% rely on has a bad day and so many of the question marks have a really good game? That’s niiiice.

Wouldn't have been bad if it wasn't for the crazy shots. Just needs to go up strong. Walker was a plus as well should be able to guard 3-5

Sure enough. But everyone will have an occasional crap game. Trey is probably the player I worry about least on the whole roster.

Walker was a pleasant surprise. But he’s kind of neither fish nor fowl. Doesn’t seem to be a post player nor a perimeter either, but a nice glue guy. Kaleb Banks was pretty similar last year.

The bench is deep but the pieces don’t fit real well.  No proven shooters, one ballhandler. We need the ability to go small and quick, but the bench is the opposite. Gunn might be the worst out of the five bench guys—I’m not counting leal, no way he plays—but he’ll probably get some minutes out of necessity. On the flip side Banks, Walker and Sparks will all probably deserve rotation minutes but there is really only 2 spots unless one can be a reliable shooter.

There’s enough talent there to scratch something out of this season, but it’ll be pretty frustrating at times.

Happy to have basketball back!!

I'll second the notion that we probably needed to add another shooter in the offseason. The first half numbers were way too reminiscent of the Archie Miller teams. There is zero reason that our offense should still resemble Archie ball in any way by this point.
